Recall Notice: RECARO Signo
RECARO is conducting a National Highway and Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) mandated recall on the RECARO Signo car seat. The recall includes 5,444 RECARO Signo car seats manufactured from February 1st, 2008 to September 20th, 2008. All Signo Car Seats sold by EliteCarSeats.com are not affected by this recall.
The recall has been initiated because of a potential defect of the harness system. The central front adjuster strap on some seats may slip within the metal adjuster (A lock) that controls tightness of the harness and may prevent the harness from being properly tightened. If this condition exists and a vehicle crash occurred, the child would not be securely fastened to the car seat and may sustain injury.
If you currently use a RECARO Signo car seat, first confirm that your RECARO Signo car seat was manufactured between February 1, 2008 and September 20th, 2008. Locate the barcode sticker located on the bottom of your Signo car seat. The "Manufactured in" numbers are the date of manufacture.
If your Signo was manufactured between February 1, 2008 and September 20, 2009, determine if the A lock is a gold/yellow or silver color. If the A lock is silver, continue using your seat. If the A Lock is gold/yellow, perform the following test::
- On your empty RECARO Signo car seat, fully tighten the harness system by pulling on the central front adjuster strap.
- Pull on both shoulder harnesses without lifting or pressing the harness adjuster release lever (locating on the front of the restraint under the cover flap).
- If the harness straps loosen, immediately cease use of the RECARO Signo. If the harness straps remain tight, continue use.
If your RECARO Signo car seat is affected by the recall, contact RECARO at 1-888-473-2290 or e-mail safety@recarousa.com. RECARO will replace your Signo car seat. When you call, please have the model, serial number, and manufacture date on hand.
