Reviews for Britax Regent toddler car seat
Needs Tweaking - Not like usual Britax

This seat was not as great as I was told. The versa-tether is hard to clip in the back because it is so stiff and cheaply made. My friend's versa tether has a button that you push to open and Britax has a metal clip that you have to push hard on (ruining my mani on more than one occasion) It also will not fit any child that is over 4, which means you have to buy another car seat or possibly a booster, the whole point of buying this seat. This is because the belly pad only has two positions. I had to use the 2nd position from the day that I bought it because it was set at the same level as my Marathon. I was sold this car seat as an upgrade and a booster seat alternative. It just will not last you that long. Kids don't like tight things on their groins. I think the quality is really just not there in comparison to Britax'previous seats. I wish that there was more tweaking allowed, like with other brands such as in the belly pad and straps. I have to keep taking them off and rethreading because they are messed up.

The Throne!

We bought our first Regent shortly before we were going on a very long road trip for our then almost 3 year old who was pushing the limits on his Roundabout. We then bought a second one for our second car. Two years later, we still say it was one of the best purchases we ever made. Our child NEVER complains about sitting in his seat. He can sleep, look out the window, cross his legs and read his books... even for a 4 hour trip.
The cons... this is a big big big car seat. Our 7 passenger 2004 Freesytle is now a 6 passenger vehicle. And placed in the center in the 2000 Civic's back seat, well, it would be difficult for someone else to sit back there, too.
The 5 point harness is the safest way to go.
Installing the seats took some time and a phone call to Britax (for the first one). Britax answered my question regarding the install, and we were good to go.
We love our Regents.

In spite of one VERY disappointing re-design flaw...

...this is still a 5-star seat and--in my opinion--the best extended harnessing seat on the market. BUT I WISH THEY HADN'T CHANGED THE HARNESS STRAPS--THEY'RE SO DARN FLIMSY NOW! They're almost paper thin now (Where their predecessors were thick and heavy), and they twist/flip just about every day--It's to the point that my 5yo is almost able to untwist them himself! VERY disappointing to be a loyal Britax customer and previous Regent owner and to have spent almost $500 on two new ones (old ones were in an accident), and to now have to deal with twisty straps! I associate twisty straps with "cheap" seats, but anyway...
...IN SPITE OF THIS (Thanks for letting me vent--I actually called Britax on this and they claim not to have changed anything about the seat, but I still have the old straps in my garage to prove it!), this is still a GREAT seat...for all of the obvious reasons (highest weight limit on the market, ease of install, ease of use), and a few not-so-obvious ones (my boys are VERY comfortable in it, they sleep GREAT in it, it has a wide base so they can sit comfortably cross-legged, and it sits low on the seat so it's very easy to get in/out of).
If you've made the decision to keep your child harnessed for a long, long time (and I hope you have!), then this is the seat you want!

Bigger is SAFER!

I have read a few reviews that the seat doesn't get tight enough? You have to sit in it yourself to get all the slack out! I am very OCD about my kids car seats after being involved in a head on (fatal) collision with my 7 month old. We had him in a Britax Marathon and he was unscathed. The drunk that hit us wasn't so lucky.. Britax replaced the seat FOR FREE and even paid for the shipping! I loved them so much after that, when my seccond son came along he got the new Marathon and my now 3 y/o is in the Regent. You could hit us with a big rig and these seats won't budge! Other seats claim they have head support, but it's paper thin and flexible. Not safe enough for my family. Oh and when I babysit my 6 y/o niece she gets the Regent and still has tons of room to grow. I just love the quality of Britax. Your family should be worth any price, since they're on sale today everyone should buy one!

Great Seat for Special Needs Children
Reviewer: Renee , Rochester NY

My son has Autim and seizures and we've had our regent now for about 2 years. Now he's almost 8 years old and rather tall. He still fits in this seat and I'm rather not looking forward to having to buy a new one when he outgrows it! It's been great and very comfortable for him. We've been very happy with it!

Not for an Odyssey
Reviewer: Anonymous , Rock Hill, SC

I am very loyal to Britax seats with two Roundabouts and a Marathon. I was extremely disappointed when the Regent would not secure safely in the 2nd row seats of our 2007 Honda Odyssey. Although the directions include several options for installation of the seat, there is really only one option for a child over 40 pounds - short route lap and shoulder belt. After numerous attempts, we were unable to get the seat securely installed. It moved side to side more than 6 inches. Using the LATCH system would work fine, but that is not an option for children over 40lbs. I strongly recommend purchasing the return insurance if you order this seat.

Love it

I was a little worried when I read the reviews about it not fitting in some cars even SUV's but went ahead and bought it anyway b/c I have always had and loved Britax! I had no problem fitting it in my Jeep Grand Cherokee and installing it was easy as well! I was also very impressed that elitecarseats.com was almost $100 cheaper on this carseat than anyone else! I have recommended this site to everyone I know! My mother and in-laws will be buying this carseat from this website!

Safest Place For Your Child
Reviewer: Marci , Las Vegas, NV

I love this seat. The regular booster seats that use a soulder/lap belt are not sufficient to protect children. Seatbelts are designed for adults and may not lock in the event of an accident. The safest place is to have your child in a 5-point harness as long as possible. It is money well spent for peace of mind!

Can't get her out
Reviewer: Anonymous , Martinsville,IL
Date: January 21, 2009
I left a review last year when I received my Regent and loved it. I wasn't sure about spending so much on a seat when she only had 14 more months in it but reasoned my son could use it for 4 more years when she finally hit the age and height restrictions in our state. Well she turns 8 in two weeks and doesn't want to give it up. She says she will not be able to sleep in just a shoulder harness on the long rides to grandma's, and since she is a small child I'm betting she will fit in in for another 18 months. So I guess I will have to buy one for my son and my niece will get hers when she finally outgrows it.
