Britax Regent

Reviewer: Anonymous , Alpharetta, GA Date: February 12, 2008
Very nice seat and installs much easier than the convertable seat. My son loves it. Yes, it costs a lot, but I wanted him to be in a 5-point harness as long as possible and this one was the best I found while researching!! I also have another son that I am planning on transitioning into this seat or just buy another britax regent for him.

I love, love, love this seat! It is huge, but once it is installed it is the best darn seat you can buy. It will keep your child in a 5-point harness longer and it is a very comfortable seat. My daughter still falls asleep in it on long trips and she's 7!!! It will accomodate a child up to 100 lbs. so it lasts for many years! Thanks for another great seat Britax!

Comments from The Staff:

Hi Katrina,
Thank you so much for your review. I did want to clarify just one quick thing for you and everyone else who may read this.
The Britax Regent has a maximum harness weight capacity of 80 lbs., not 100 lbs. and should not be used for children who weigh more than 80 lbs.

Please let us know if you have any questions and thanks again for the review!

Love our new Regent!!!

I have been debating back and forth about spending the money on this carseat, but went again to look at all the brands side by side. I finally decided to purchase the Regent and I'm so happy I did. I've NEVER had problems with either the Britax Roundabout or Boulevard tangling. Sometimes they twist but are never tangled. My daughter loved it from the minute we took it out of the box. She can't wait to go on a trip. She has so much room to sit. One thing you'll find in almost all reviews is that it TRULY takes up 1.5 seats in your back row. If you started with a 5 person car/SUV, you're now down to a 4 person vehicle. Other than that, losing the extra seat is worth my daughter's safety. I'd definitely spend the money!!!

Changing my mind...

Reviewer: Anonymous , Naperville, IL Date: February 06, 2008
I just wrote a review stating there were several things I did not like about the Regent, and that I was not sure if I would ever buy one again if I had to. Well after seeing what else is out there, I have changed my mind! My son is nearly 4 years old and very tall for his age -- 42 inches. He is only about 35-36 lbs, so he is on the light side. We had a Graco Platinum CarGo in my husband's car as he picks up the kids when I have to work second shift (he is in a Marathon in my car). My son's shoulders were taller than the last harness slot on the CarGo, so we took out the harness to make it a booster. I wasn't thrilled about putting him a booster, but figured since my husband' car wasn't the primary vehicle he was riding in, it would be OK. After riding in the booster one time my husband asked what we would have to do to keep him in a 5 point harness longer. My son almost slid under the seat belt (even with a coat on) and my husband said he just didn't feel good with him in the booster. I went to the local baby store and looked at the other seats out there. My daughter has a Regent so I was obviously very familiar with it. I looked at the Sunshine Radian 80 and just wasn't impressed. It just didn't feel as solid. And since there really aren't many other choices to keep the little ones harnessed above 40 lbs, I decided to buy another Regent. I now have the piece of mind of knowing he is going to be harnessed a lot longer. As far as the straps twisting and other issues I have with my daughter's Regent, well, I think it's a small inconvenience for my piece of mind. :)

Good for big kids

We got this seat because my son is only 3 1/2 and weighs over 40 lbs and is over 38 inches. This is the only carseat that will allow him to sit comfortably and have the 5 point harness restraint. It is very big, and very soft and comfortable. My son sits in it well, has plenty of elbow and leg room and it almost looks like a lazyboy recliner (we joke that all he needs is a drink and the remote control!). The size of the carseat would be my only concern, it is very large and I'm not sure if it would fit well in smaller cars. We have a Chrysler minivan, so it fits perfectly in the back seat, but I dont think another one would fit next to it. Overall, I love this seat and feel better about having one that will keep my son as safe as possible. I just would advise those with small cars or those who need more than one to check the carseat dimensions to see if it would fit.

We had to buy the Regent for my very tall 4 year old daughter as she was very uncomfortable in the Marathon. I wanted to keep her in a 5 point harness as long as possible, and although I wasn't thrilled at spending nearly $300 on yet another car seat, I had read good things about the Regent so I bought it. There are several things that I do like about it -- my daughter fits in it well. I like the fact that it sits right on the seat unlike the Marathon (makes it much easier for her to get in and out of). I also like the mesh pockets on the sides. My daughter is always putting her stuff in them. I know no seat is perfect, but there are enough things that I don't like about this seat that would make me not want to buy it again. First, the straps are constantly getting tangled. I have taken off the cover and rethreaded them at least 4 times, only for them to tangle yet again. Second, I agree with others that it is not easy to use the car's seat belt to install the seat. It took me several tries to get the seat tight - the only way I could is if I used the teather. As many others have stated, the seat is so big and heavy that I dread when I have to take it out of the car. We were hoping it would be easy to move in and out, but it isn't. Finally, I have had the metal pieces that go into the buckle come undone while I was driving (a problem I have also had with the Marathon). I am very careful to make sure the buckle "clicks" before I start driving so I am not sure why the pieces would just pop out. If it happens many more times I am not going to use it at all. As I said, no seat is perfect, but it seems like Britax has some issues with the Regent they need to address.

Britax Regent

We love this car seat and would purchase it again. The only negatives are how heavy it is, you won't want to switch it from car to car and my husband said the Latch mechanism is right under the padding. My daughter has never compained though so I am assuming it's comfortable. This will be her last car seat which is great since she is only 3.

this is a good one

We recently bought our second Regent. My son is just about to turn 5 and loves his comfortable seat. It truly is the "king of car seats." We feel very good having him in such a safe seat (and felt not nearly as good about moving to most of the boosters on the market). While our first car is an SUV, I was a bit nervous we'd run in to a space issue with our car (Honda Accord), but we did not have any issues. (I however think it would be tight if you needed to use the middle seat.) Overall, this is a good one!

Great seat but...

The directions are rather poorly written. I bought this for my grandson to use on his visits, and while I have two and nearly three post graduate degrees, and am generally quite good at figuring things out, I couldn't understand the directions. I had to have my daughter, who learned from another person, install the seat. It is probably best for use in a car where it will remain rather then to be moved from vehicle to vehicle, as it is very heavy. But once installed, it is a great sturdy and reliable seat.
