Great Alterternative to a Booster

Reviewer: Anonymous , Pineville, KY Date: March 04, 2008
I bought the Regent in Madison print for my daughter who is 3.5 yrs, 39" tall & 33 lbs. She had almost outgrown her Eddie Bauer 3-in-1 in harness mode and I just couldn't bring myself to put her in it as a booster. The Regent does look huge at first because it has a lot more actual seating area than any other seat I've seen. My daughter is barely above the lowest harness slot and has ample shoulder room. She is able to sit criss-cross-applesauce which she loves to do. The highest harness slot is almost at the top of her head so I know we'll be able to use it for several years. When I installed it in our van, it's not any taller than the Eddie Bauer was, but it is a little wider(it's 21" wide). It was simple to install with LATCH and TETHER and it is very secure. We also have used it in a friend's Jetta along with her son's Eddie Bauer. With two car seats in the back there wasn't room for another person, but the Regent was easier to install and more secure than her son's seat(I knew how to install his seat since it is just like our previous one, but it wouldn't tighten as well as the Regent). He just turned 3 and we fit him in the Regent & the lowest harness slot fit him (he's 36.5' tall). His mom liked it so much, she's going to get one for him in a different pattern, of course. I'm not sure how a child much less than 36" would fit. I would recommend this seat to anyone with a toddler. I think it's a much safer choice than a booster. My daughter is also able to sleep without her head flopping. I know this wouldn't be an option if she was in a traditional booster.

seat belt is too short!!!

My daughter is 3.5 years old 40" & 35 lbs. After researching car seats with 5 point harness use, I decided on the Regent because every review talked about how safe it is. My daughter weighs 35 lbs. The seat is supposed to be able to be used with children 22-80 in the harness. Nowhere, did I ever read that the seat belt might be too short. ( I don't have latch either). Because my daughter doesn't weigh 40 pounds yet, the seat must be installed using the "long route". The seat belt is way too short (Even though I have an SUV). I had a car seat safety expert try it in two different positions in the car. Now, I have to wait until she weighs 40 lbs to use it (since it took her 7 months to gain 1 pound, I'm thinking I can use it in 2-3 years. I wish I had read somewhere, maybe the Britax website, that there are two ways to install and the seat belt might not fit!!!!! Now I have to buy another seat until she gains some weight. So much for the $280 I spent on that one :(

Great Buy

I am very excited to have purchased this car seat. I have a 2 1/2 yr old who is 38 inches tall and 35lbs. He was just too big for his Eddie Bauer car seat. When I was looking to purchase something larger, it just made sense to buy the REGENT because of all the features and benefits that will stay with him as he grows. I have a Chevy Trailblazer and it fits awesome. It is so safe it is anchored to my car from the top and the bottom. I believe this is the only car seat any parent should buy for their child afer the infant/baby stage! Also, I searched many websites and elite car seats had no shipping costs and prompt service! I highly recommend this product!

Expensive but worth it

My two year old outgrew the height and weight requirement of our Britax Marathon. Didn't feel he was ready for a booster and this seat was the perfect solution. Expensive but Britax is the easiest and sturdiest seat we have ever bought.

Great for kids with a long torso

I reviewed the Britax Boulevard and now that it is back on the shelf and I have the Regent, I thought I would pass along my thoughts for parents who have kids with a long torso. The Regent is a big, big 5-point car seat, and I wasn't sure it would fit in the back of my quad-cad truck, but it did! My child is so much more comfortable than in the Blvd. This is due to the extrordinary amount of shoulder room in the Regent. There is plenty of room to grow from the waist up, and he is once again a happy traveler. Now the down side is having to give up the side impact protection. But truth be told, my son could not ride for long with his shoulders compressed and vision blocked. The Regent sits a bit lower than my previous car-seat (Roundabout), but the trade off for me is less of a lift to get him in it. Over all I am very pleased, giving it a 4 star rating. I would have given it a 4 1/2 if offered, but not a five since it does not offer the side impact protection. I hope you find the right seat for your "precious cargo".

Very nice but huge!

When I read the reviews, I scoffed to some degree at how big everyone said this thing is; once we received it, they were right! It fits in my '01 Grand Cherokee, but will not even get into the back seat of our '01 SLS. As for the seat itself, my son loves it. Good support, easy buckle, and he is still up enough to see out the window. He's in the 95th% + for height, so this is a great fit for him. As for our other car, we will need to find a different alternative when he grows out of his current Roundabout (which will be VERY soon). I would highly recommend, but take the dimensions into account first!

Big and Beautiful

I purchased an older version of this seat (Super Elite) a few years ago for then 3 1/2 year old twins. They were reaching the 40lb weight limit for their carseats, and I was looking to keep them harnessed if possible. (When their brother had hit the same weight 4 years earlier, the only option I could find was a belt-positioning booster, and it was less than ideal.) I was excited to find this seat, but was worried about the size since I needed two of them, plus had to leave room for their brother (7 1/2 at the time). I went to a local baby furniture store, and was able to see if two seats would fit in my 2001 Volkswagen Passat. Well, they did fit, and with room (not much, I admit) in the middle for the older child. I love these seats! I have used them with children as big as 8 years and approx. 75 lbs, and as small as 2 1/2 years and approx. 28 lbs. (that was only on a few occasions; her regular carseat was a Marathon). I want to let others know that this seat WILL fit in a vehicle smaller than a large minivan or SUV, but they do take up a lot of space. The seat seems to be very comfortable for the children and gives them plenty of room in both width and height. The only reason I cannot give this seat 5 stars is that I have not used the newer version (Husky or Regent) and understand that these are installed in a slightly different manner than the seats I own. I feel that the children are much safer when restrained by a 5-point harness, and am glad the Britax offers this option for children up to 80 lbs.

Fabulous!

Our son, 6 years old, 55lbs, has had this seat for several years (Britax Husky Model) & loves it. He has mild Autism & will not safely sit in a booster seat. This model will ensure your child is riding with comfort & safety. The Husky/Regent seat is larger than other seats & I drive a Lincoln Navigator so he has to sit in the 3rd row because it is a pain to move the seat around if I was to have passengers in the middle row. Anyway, Britax seats are by far the best in the industry, my daughter is in a Marathon & will be getting her own Regent seat shortly. 5 point restraints should be mandatory for all children under 7, I feel that boosters just do not offer enough protection during a collision for any passenger under 75lbs.

Excellent!

Nice & comfy for the toddler, safety is still hugely evident, quality is amazing. Our last was the Britax Roundabout but we reached the 40 lb weight rating so had to move up. True, it's large - even in my GMC Yukon Denali - so won't work in some other vehicles including a smaller SUV. But the quality and features are much better than so many others and put me at ease since I don't want my large 3 year old in less than the best. The adjustable belts are not quite as easy as they are on the Roundabout but very secure and safe, which is preferred over ease for me. No idea why anyone would buy less unless they don't have a vehicle that it can fit in. Worth every penny! If you think you can't afford it but have a vehicle it can fit in - you CAN afford it and should get it. The only request of my child is that she wants a cup holder - hopefully Britax will put one in the next seat. Elite is wonderful to work with - I've used them on this seat and the last 2 years ago as well as the jogging strollers website to get a new stroller (another fantastic investment and we get comments about that stroller all the time!) They are super fast and I've even talked to them with questions previously - EXCELLENT SERVICE! Quality and service is important to me and this seat is the best! Elitecarseats is the best service-wise!
