Reviews for Britax Advocate CS convertible car seat
Great Seat, Too Big

I have always been a huge Britax Boulevard fan and when it came to needing another car seat, I figured the Advocate could only be better than the Boulevard given the new Side Impact Air Technology. I was wrong. While it looks safe, the cushions don't seem to be attached very well to the seat (to get the cover off and on) and IT IS HUGE. They market the cushions not only beneficial for the baby but the adjacent passenger. Depending on your car, it actually impedes the space of the adjacent passenger forcing them to come into contact with the cushions whether they like it or not. I am not getting rid of the seat because I do feel it is the safest for my baby but if I had to do it over, I'd buy the Britax Boulevard CS or the Recaro ProSport.

Just read about the features and you will see how safe it is! This has the true side impact protection (keeping head and neck aligned), the extra wings like the Britax Boulevard for side impact protection, and the air cushions (a new technology to protect against side impact)! Side impact collisions are the deadliest and the local carseat technician recommended this when I told her it had air cushions!
It is well-built and easy to install. I do not think the manual is the best but if you order it early you will have time to figure it out. Also, they have videos online and a 1-800 number. Yes, this is big so look into vehicle compatibility.
Two more notes. My baby sweats a great deal more in this carseat than in his infant carseat. It doesn't have to be hot out for him to be warm in the carseat, so I dress him lightly and crank the ac in the car. I freeze but he is comfortable! Also, deciding whether you want to start with a convertible carseat or start with an infant carrier/carseat is up to you, however the angle of the carseat is important for newborns and very small babies, and I found it very difficult to get the correct angle in this carseat. I think the same difficulty would exist with all carseats that do not have a base.
When I had it inspected I fretted over the angle, but the technician told me tthat my son is old enough that I don't have to worry about the angle because he had good head and neck control. He was eight months when we switched. I am glad I started with the Chicco Key Fit 30 infant car seat because it has a built-in level that made it easy to know my infant's head and neck were at the correct angle. This is something you will want to consider, however I highly recommend this carseat for at least when they are too big for a carrier! Lastly, if you can't afford this, SAfety 1st has a carseat with air cushions as well. We purchased it for our back-up vehicle, which my son is rarely in. It is the Complete Air Carseat by Safety 1st.
