Reviews for Britax Frontier toddler car seat
very substantial

I was rather concerned that this car seat would not fit in our 1998 Volvo wagon. However, I called the company and they told me which installation method to choose for my car. It is difficult for me install. We do not have the LATCH system in our car. My husband is the only one strong enough and heavy enough to install it correctly. Yet, now that it is in, it is solid as a rock. My daughter loves it. Before buying this seat, we tried the Graco Nautilus. While that seat is easier to install, it is not as solid or sturdy as the Frontier. To add, the Frontier has the true side impact protection, which the Nautilus does not. I decided to pay the extra $100 and even endure a more difficult installation in order to get what appears to be a safer car seat for my child. I will definatly buy this seat again for our other cars and our younger children when they get big enough.

We purchased 4 of these and love everyone of them. Installation was simple and we have never had a more sturdy carseat. These are worth every penny! Also love the awesome colors they come in. We got 2 red and 2 pink! Would highly reccomend this product! The harness weight of 80 lbs is definitely a huge selling point!Great product!

Great choice

Purchased 2 of the Frontier from here. Sales staff was great and they have a 10% multiples discount on non sale items so i got them for only $251 each. They were installed today into my 04' Cadillac CTS. They fit perfect without issue with exactly enough room to use the cars mid seat cupholders rather than the seats. The car seats are very very solid but the cupholders are a bit flimsy and are on way too much of an angle in harness mode. The seats are as strong as steel once anchored properly with the Latch system. Both seats were installed in under 30 minutes by the local firemen. Although on a side note the local firemen here did state they were not in 100% agreement that the recline block should be in the front in harness mode in some vehicles. Due to some vehicles having a deep incline such as mine. They stated the had concern about the angle and a crash possibly putting too much stress on the childs hips instead of the torso area. They did install according to the manufacturer guide and i put all my weight into the seats when anchoring so they did level out a bit more. Just be sure to really crank these down when using in harness to level up the seat to distribute force best.

Don't Buy If You Move Your Seat Between Vehicles

We are previous Britax owners and loved the Boulevard. When it was time for a bigger seat we chose the Frontier and regret buying it. My daughter loves the seat and it has great safety ratings. The problem is getting the seat secured in a vehicle. If you have 15-20 minutes to wrestle with the seat every time you absolutely have to move it to another vehicle, then I recommend buying one. I am a firm believer that a car seat is not something to skimp on when it comes to price, but I wish we had purchased one of the less expensive seats we looked at. We keep installation directions with the seat at all times because we have to refer to them every time we move the car seat. I just think it's ridiculous and wish we could get our money back.

So far, so good

We just bought this seat yesterday and installed it last night. I would agree installation is difficult. However, while it took me over an hour to attempt getting the seat secure but without success. My husband was able to secure the seat correctly in less than 5 minutes! We used the long belt path as our son is close to 40 lbs. We wanted a seat that would keep him harnessed for a long time to come (he is only 2 1/2). Since it does seem to be a smaller seat (than the Regent which I think the Frontier is replacing) I am really not that sure how our son won't outgrow it harnessed prior to the 53inches and 80 lbs. However, it seems to be the only seat with the heighest weight and height capacity that I've found. I am hoping that we can truly keep our son in this seat till he is 53 inches and 80 lb. I love the color and our son seems to like it.

LOVE IT!! A lot of the reviews made me worry. So, I purchased the retun shipping insurance for $5 just incase. I installed the seats in a 2005 Toyota Sienna with NO problem. It is good and tight. It does not move around. I have had many car seats in 6 years. This is the first Britax I have had. I bought it because of the great height and weight limits with the 5 point harness restraint.(Which I am going back to)I LOVE this seat. My 4 year old (35 lbs.), and 6 year old (32 lbs) LOVE IT! It took me about 10 minutes to initially install after looking over the directions! THE most user friendly car seat I have ever had! (and yes I did put my knees in the seat to tighten it down, but I have always done that) Hope this helps!

Odyssey Drivers, Beware

I am the mother of an almost 3 1/2 year old who is very tall for her age and has outgrown her harness carseat. I was reluctant to put her in a booster, as harness seats seem so much safer and more secure. Having only heard great things about Britax car seats, I decided to make the hefty investment and try the Frontier so that she could be harnessed for several more years. The seat appears well built and sturdy, but as the driver of a 2009 Honda Odyssey, I have had to return the Frontier. After several attempts to install the seat using both the short and long belt path installation instructions, I could not obtain a secure fit in the second row seat. (FYI -- for children over 40 pounds using the harness, installation must be with the seat belt, not LATCH) I finally called Britax to find out if others have encountered trouble with installations in Odysseys. They stated that the Frontier was tested in the Odyssey, but that a secure fit was only obtained in the third row. As the parent of only one child, it is highly impractical to banish her to the third row and to climb back there myself to adjust her harness. So, I returned the seat and my daughter has been happily and securely riding in a high-back booster for the past few days. For those contemplating a Frontier, I recommend that you try before you buy, or at least ensure that the seat you purchase can be returned if it does not fit your vehicle.

Really wanted to love this seat

The marathon is the best car seat on the market, hands down, as long as you don't outgrow it! When we decided to hand down my 4 1/2 year old's seats (35 lbs & 40") to his little sister, I immediately bought this seat; didn't even look at anything else becuase I love the brand that much. The marathon is so user friendly; I thought everyone who said the Frontier was hard to install was just not reading the directions. Boy was I wrong. I COULD NOT get the seat tight with the latch, not even when I used the rear teather. the last review gave some good tips (I think), but even if I figured it out, I knew that it was too difficult for me to feel confident that his grandparents & aunts/uncles he rides with would have the patience to work with it like I did. After all, 85% of all car seats are installed incorrectly therefore jeapordizing your child's safety!
I am so disappointed becuase I really wanted this Brand/seat. If they would just move the latch connectors to the sides like on the Marathon, this seat would be my only choice. As it stands, we got a Radian XT & it installed almost as easily as the marathon and has all the safety features of a Britax. If the Radian doesn't work out, I guess I'll be the proud owner of two more marathons & just cross my fingers that my son doesn't outgrow them anytime soon! Oh, & the 3 stars is becuase I just can't give this brand anything less than above average becuase of the safety...they just need to figure out the ease of use on this product & it will be great.

Tip for installation
Reviewer: Anonymous , Nashville, TN

I just installed this car seat and could not be happier with the features, the easily adjustable head rest and the harness capacity up to 80 pounds. My four year old is already 40 pounds and 42 inches tall but based on research, we did not want to move her to a belt positioning booster seat.
Now, the latch installation is very difficult (although the latch hooks are by far the easiest ones we have ever used -- both to hook and unhook) and it did appear to be pretty loose. However, we worked with it and were able to get it tight enough. In order to get it tight enough, you have to: 1) facing the front of the car seat move the fabric cover to the side; 2) once you do that, you can pull the belt adjuster through the grooves in the back of the car seat; and 3) put your knee in the middle of the seat and pull from the front of the seat (that is, rather than pulling from the sides of the car seat which you do for most seats). If you don't pull the adjusters through the back of the seat, they get hooked on the short patch groove and then you can't tighten it enough. While this is hard to explain, I hope it makes some sense. They definitely need to upgrade their instruction manuel. With as loose at it was when I first tried to install it, I was going to take it back.....Now, I am very glad we kept working with it.
