Reviews for Britax Frontier toddler car seat
LOVE IT - Britax doesn't disappoint

The Frontier is a fantastic seat. We have a different harness to booster and the Frontier is more comfy and plush hands down. I ordered two in Rushmore and had them at my door in 3 days - plus the date of manufacture was less than 2 weeks old! Read the installation instructions carefully and installing with LATCH is a breeze. I had both of mine from the box to a rock solid install in 15 mins total. Once again, Britax doesn't disappoint.

AWESOME seat....MUST read manual before installing!

I have read many, many reviews about this seat, and everyone who says you MUST read the manual before installation is right on! When the seat first came out of the box, I was overwhelmed with how complicated it looks, but I read the manual by itself before even looking at the seat detail, then read it again looking at the seat, then read it again (many times) while I was installing it. I highly advise you to also read your car's owner's manual regarding car seat installation because I learned an important tip from my car owner's manual for locking the seat belt into place before use.
My 3-year-old grew out of her Britax Decathlon, despite its weight limit of 60 pounds(she's very long in the torso), so this is a great seat if you want to continue the use of a 5-point harness and not have to buy another seat when they're ready for a seat belt booster.
Yes, this seat is bulky and it's heavy, and it takes up a lot of room in my Honda Accord, which is why I only gave it 4 stars, but it installs easily and very tightly. I am almost 5 months pregnant, and I installed it by myself without issue- it just takes time and patience.
With its excellent safety ratings and head support, I know this seat is worth the money!

Installation tip for latch

Britax safety was #1 for me, so I agreed to sign up for the reported difficult installation. It lived up to the expectation and I could not get it snug enough on my own.
I finally called Britax. There is a trick - which they need to put in their instruction manual! After clicking into latch anchors, pull the tightening tabs up through the holes in the back of the seat (find the holes by looking under the back cushion). Put your knee on the seat and pull tabs forward to tighten. It's a breeze & totally solid. Now I am completely satisfied.

NOT HARD AT ALL!

We have used the Britax seats exclusivly for both of our boys. (infant seats excluded) Marathon, Boulevard, Regent and now the Frontier. After reading several of the other reviews, you would think installing this seat was hard. IT IS NOT HARD to install. Not at all. Let me clearly state that we do have LARGE vehicles; 08 Tahoe & 07 Truck, so that may be a factor. But, even puting it into Granna's Nissan Maxima was no biggie. Our 3 year old really thinks it's cool! The straps are so easy to adjust, the cup holders are great, and the side impact head rest makes a great lean-to pillow! Love BRITAX!

LOVE IT! So do the kids!

First let me say that I have a Toyota 4 Runner and have two of these seats in the back and a small child can still fit in the middle. I could not find that information anywhere if it would work, nor would Britax themselves let me know if it would work. We have 3 kids and one is out of the car seat. Second, I have to say it took 5 minutes to install each seat with the Latch system. I was worried after reading all the reviews that it would be hard. If you look at the pictures on the book and follow them, its not a problem at all. I'm so glad I ordered these seats, they are heavy but it makes me feel better that they are sturdy and I won't be moving them from car to car. We ordered more for my husbands truck. Worth every penny!! We owned Graco's prior to this and they were horrible and cheap.

hard to install but really insatlled

This was a @#$%^ to install and yes I read the directions over and over again. We have a Lexus 400 and maybe it is not a great fit for this car. That said now that I got it in- By reclining a seat that does not really recline- it is in and we won't ever take it out. Hanging on to our 6 year old roundabout to use in other cars and planes. It's also a tight fit in between this one and our 7 year olds parkway booster so it reduced our seating capacity. That said our son is comfortable and safe and that is what matters most.

I love this seat.

My daughter outgrew the Maxi-Cosi Priori Convertible seat (love that seat too!) When looking for a new seat I stressed hard about what to get since there are no stores near me that sell the seats I was considering and thus I could not see them in person to help me make a choice. Elitecarseats.com was my first choice to order online for the all the info and reviews they provide as well as the return insurance. I finally settled on Frontier and purchased the return insurance. There were several reviews on here that were extremely helpful for the installation of the seat, although Britax has updated their installation manual for the Frontier. Once I had read the reviews and manual the seat installed effortlessly. In fact it was the easiest seat I've ever put in, and I have 3 kids, been through a lot of seats. It fits perfectly in the center seat of my 2006 Lexus LX with plenty of room for backless boosters on both sides. The feature that allows you to adjust the harness without rethreading is wonderful! My daughter has a ton of room and she just loves the new seat. The padding seems very nice and comfy. The harness is extremely easy to tighten. The only thing I don't like is that when the seat is in nice and tight the cupholders won't stay completely shut, but that would not have influenced my decision to buy the seat. It is a heavy seat, but you can tell it's a very well made, quality seat and I feel very confident having her in it. I highly recommend it.

Son loves this seat

My husband and I were looking for a second 5 points harness car seat for our 2.5yr old who is 39in tall and 33lb. We already bought a radian80, which we bought for traveling and is installed in my BMW, but were looking for something more comfortable for our long road trips. After researching lots of car seats that would meet our requirements (we were in between the Recaro Signo and the Britax Frontier), we decided to give the Frontier a chance because it doesn't have a base like the Signo and can be used for a bit longer. We read that the Frontier is very hard to install. Regarding installation, my husband and I have different opinions because if it were not for him I would have a hard time to do it myself. My husband installed the seat in less than 20 minutes. It's installed on the second row of our late model Nissan Quest and it is rock solid. The Frontier is a big car seat and we don't plan to move it unless when we have guests staying with us. We already checked that in order to install the frontier on the 3rd row and use the latch system, we have to place it right in the middle of the seat. Bottom line, we all love the Frontier because when we look at our son, we know he is safe, his posture is right, and he is comfortable (he falls asleep in it every time). This is what it matters to us. Thanks to Elitecarseats for helping us chose the right car seat for our family.

Love the seat...Difficult to install
Reviewer: Anonymous , Ashburn, VA
Date: April 30, 2009
First let me say, I loved dealing with Elite Car Seats...great customer service. We bought the Britax Frontier for our 4 year old, 36 lbs, 39 inches. She LOVES the seat, she thinks it looks a lot like her big brother's monarch. I am pretty good at installing car seats since I do it quite often and move the seats around a bit. But this seat took me over an hour to install. That was after reading the entire instruction book before attempting to install it. I didn't use latch as she's pretty close to 40 lbs and I don't want to move the seat again. The short belt path didn't work for me at all.
At first the long belt path wouldn't work either. I have a Honda Odyssey and was trying to install in in the 3rd row. The belt just seemed too short. After many, many tries I was ready to pack it up and send it back (much to my daughter's dismay). I finally got it to work, I just had to be careful not to let the belt retract at all and begin to lock.
Now that it's in, it's very sturdy and my daughter LOVES it. She says it's very comfortable. She's using it in harness mode until she grows a bit more.
I gave it 4 out of 5 stars for the difficult installation. But the quality of Britax is unmatched. This is our 5th Britax seat and we love them. Just be prepared to spend a bit of time installing it (or get someone to help). I was installing alone so it was a bit tough holding the seatbelt so it wouldn't retract and threading it through the appropriate holes on the seat.
