Great for Travel

Reviewer: Anonymous , Indianapolis, IN Date: July 21, 2008
My 3 y.o. is currently in a Britax Marathon, and I bought this carseat planning to transfer him over when his infant brother is ready for the Marathon. As of now, we've used it primarily for travel, and if I never use it as a primary car seat, I'll still feel as though I've gotten a good deal. This seat is great for travel (especially compared to lugging the heavy Britax Marathon to and from the airport). I traveled alone with my 2 sons, and was able to park the car seat in its included case on top of the suitcase and go straight to the rental car without getting any assitance. That never would have happened with a standard seat. Once there, I installed the seat with a minimum of trouble (this has been true every time we've used it for travel and had various rental cars). While my son still likes his Marathon better (due to the higher height = better view and extra padding)he loves his "race car seat." He also finds it comfortable, as he routinely falls asleep in it (we have some trouble with his head falling forward, but no more so than with the Marathon). I still plan to use it as my primary seat once we need to move him out of the Britax Marathon, but it is ideal as a travel seat, as well. It is definitely less substantial-feeling than the Britax Marathon, but it feels very secure and safe once installed and adjusted for his height. Overall, I've been very pleased with this seat.

My wife and I purchased the SafeGuard Go booster seat because we wanted a 5 pt harness booster, and were attracted by the fact it was easily portable and not big and clumsy. Upon receiving the seat, I was impressed by the quality and design. It is made in the USA and the high quality of workmanship and materials is evident. It was a breeze to install using LATCH anchors and top tether. Our son likes this seat, and it's multiple adjustments will ensure he is able to use if for a long time. It is also very easy for him get in it on his own, which he loves.

I recieved this seat today and installed it in 5 minutes. It's so easy ! I normally avoid latch system because i don't know how to use it, and this made it so simple ! Also, this seat is great with space. And my 3 year old seems very comfortable. I love this product and am so happy that i decided to go with this seat vs. a bulky 5 pt harness seat.

In learning that LATCH does not work after your child exceeds 40lbs, I feel very scammed by the carseat industry! How many of these things do I have to buy? I want to keep our 40lb 4yr old in a chest harness as long as possible, and I cannot stand installing the bulky, difficult Britax particularly with a seatbelt. I do not believe there is any way for me to safely install the Britax, and with carpooling, emergencies, etc, there is not way to get your seat inspected after every installation. I AM THRILLED with the SafeGuard booster. It was the easiest seat to install, and I even thought the instructions were easy to read. Top tether is definitely needed, but the seat is so light weight I have no installation concerns whatsoever since I can install it with zero budging (my Britax always wiggled a tiny bit). We've been in the SafeGuard for about 4 months now, and my son just got a stomach virus and I had to remove and wash all parts of the seat, so we were in a booster shell for a couple of days, and now I know it is worth keeping him in a chest harness. Everytime I looked back at him in the shell with the car's shoulder strap, he had his arms out of the carseat straps and was grabbing something in the car. So unsafe! SafeGuard is back in the car, and he is really safe again. Phew! Love this carseat.

We bought this seat for my 5 y.o. to replace a Britax Marathon. Although she still fit into the Britax by the manufacturer standards, she needed a booster because of her long legs. She's 46" and 42 lb. and fits well into the booster. She gives it 2 thumbs up for comfort. The harness, latch and tether features are great. This seat should last her until she no longer needs one.

Terrific car seat

This is a terrific car seat! I have children ages 2 and 4 and like to keep each of them in 5-point harness seats. For carpooling, it was necessary to buy a third seat that would fit in between 2 large car seats (Britax Marathon and Graco Cargo). This seat fits between them nicely, and because it has a 5 point harness I can let my younger child ride in it too. It is a very comfortable seat. It installed very easily (I use seatbelt and tether strap, there are no latch connectors for our middle seat).

Great seat - one problem

Initially hesitant to forgo the use of our Britax but the comfort & ease makes the transition to a "big boy" booster all the more easier! Now, if your company could just provide an easy transition for a mom who cannot believe that my four + two year old are no longer in a Peg Perego Primigi! As stated in other comments - the seat really does not provide any protection for the "slumping" head factor when the child sleeps. Concerns me about pressure on their neck and ability to breathe properly. Did other parents find a solution?

Not great for playdates and carpooling

I love this seat in our car. The 5 point harness with a booster style seat is great. However, I am finding many people don't have a tether anchor in their car or don't know how to use it. So I usually have to take my son over to a play date instead of letting him ride in his friend's car. Also, our grandparents have a convertible and there is not a tether avaiable. We will have to purchase another seat for their car. I wish the information on the seat had mentioned the back of the seat is collapsible: the only way it stays up is with the tether. If your tether were not directly behind the child's seat (like in a Suburban - there is only one tether meant to be shared by all 3 seat positions) I'm not sure how the seat would work.

Great Booster!

My almost 3 year old outgrew his Britax Roundabout so we bought the SafeGuard Go. It's a great seat, easy to install and mostly easy to use. I wish there was more head support for when he falls asleep, this has been the hardest transition from the cushy Britax baby seat to a booster, but I think this is the case with all boosters. I also liked the strap tightening mechanism on the Britax much better, I find adjusting the straps on the Safeguard to be difficult. I do believe this is a safe seat, and that is what matters most. He has also ridden in some other (cheaper) boosters that I feel are far inferior when it comes to safety and ease of use. So overall, I think we made the best choice, it's as close as I've seen to perfect and hopefully the last seat we have to buy for him.
