The Best Out There

I bought this seat direct from IMMI for my son. He is extremely tall (43 inches at 2 1/2 years, and long-torsoed so we need especially high harness height), and this seems like the only car safety seat (other than large medical seats) that will be tall enough to get him through until he's old enough for a booster.

Pros: Easy installation. As another reviewer said, it practically installs itself with LATCH. I am a certified CPS Technician and have worked with many, many seats, and this is by far the easiest to install tightly. Height: This seat offers 8 inches more harness height than any other 65-pound seat, and the height adjustment mechanism is the easiest out there. For those of us with tall, lanky kids, this is essential. Construction: It is solid, sturdy, and super comfortable. Crash protection: It is tested far beyond FMVSS 213 specifications and offers side-impact protection.

Cons: Doesn't recline at all, although most seats that do recline don't allow it past 30-33 pounds anyway. The harness-hugging pads are basically impossible to get off; this is generally not an issue, but when you're trying to make sure the straps are not twisted, it's nice to be able to take the pads off to check. The belly pad is a little odd; it's anchored in front of the crotch strap, and then the crotch strap fits through a slot in the belly pad to pass in front of it. The harness retractor doesn't pull the straps quite as snug as I want them; I usually do have to cinch them a bit tighter with the fine-tuning knob. And price, obviously.

All in all, I am highly impressed with this seat. IMMI's decades of experience making car seat parts have helped them design the best seat out there.

Her sister is jealous

We recently purchased a Safeguard Go for our 4 year old, and got a Safeguard Child seat for the 1 year old. It is as easy as it claims to put into the latch system. And, comparing this seat to all the others, is really, no comparason. The 4 year old cried in the store b/c she couldn't get this seat b/c "I like THIS seat the best" (and, we had her sitting in Britax and the Radian). We had decided to get the 4 year old the Safegard GO, but, thought, that we would get the "baby" the Radian 80 or Radian 65 b/c it was "cheaper" and skinnier, and we have modular seats in the middle of our minivan. But, after putting the *petite* 4 year old in the Radian 65, her shoulders were at the edge of the Radian already (without bulky clothing or a coat), and the heighth wasn't nearly as tall as the Safeguard. The Safeguard is expensive, but, less than one month of daycare AND this will last until at least 1st grade, and, I love the fact I can keep her in a five point harness for longer than 40 lbs. I wish I had known about this when the four year old went "Forward facing". We did not get one for her as she will only be able to use it for a few more years (and, we did get her the Safeguard Go) My ONLY complaint about this system, is that it doesn't recline. But, it is soo plush (memory foam! I wish I had it that good!), that this might not be an issue. And, when I took out the front facing other car seat the 4 year old was in, I was mad at myself it was not nearly as sturdy, did not have the side impact protection, and was made out of pretty flimsy plastic with no foam protection. Safeguard is truly the best in comfort and in safety. From the easy to adjust straps, the height adjuster that seems to adjust itself, I am glad we went ahead and paid the extra money for this seat. While it may not hold up to 80 lbs, I truly doubt some of those other seats can hold a real life kid for that long because the shoulder width was an issue, as is the headrest (but NOT with the Safeguard, we measured!) As I said, the four year old is mad she didn't get this!

Review of the SafeGuard Child Seat - Crimson Red

Reviewer: anonymous , Seoul, Korea Date: January 21, 2007
I live in Seoul, Korea and had the product brought to me by my mother who lives in NYC. It was worth the trouble in my opinion because of two reasons: safety and comfort. The seat was easy to install and put in its position. The seat sat up high so that my 9 month year old girl who is large for her age can see out. It was obvious that she liked that feature. Her head had a place to rest comfortably on its side so we did not have to place an extra pillow there to avoid her head being cocked to its side too severely when she fell asleep. We had to do that with our other car seat. With our girl, it is very easy to tell whether she likes the seat. I am sure most other children are the same and she likes this car seat a lot. She did not like sitting her her previous car seat for very long at all. For some small areas of improvement. First, my wife's car is Mercedes imported from Germany and it was unfortunate that it did not have a latch. Without a latch one seat belt going through the back was not enough to keep the heavy seat solid in its place. We had to use extra belts to reinforce it. The back seat on the Mercedes sedan was not level. Therefore, we had to find seat covers for car seats to make it more even on the bottom. However, we did not feel that these were the fault of Elite Car Seat.

Truly the BEST!!

This seat really is the best and the safest seat you will ever buy. It took me about 10 mins to install and that is counting the 'taking out of the box' part. After we took it out my husband and I were amazed at how well constructed this seat is and how beautiful it is! The fabric is so soft and looks so cool, no flowers, animals or any other weird prints especially for my Big Girl who is 4 and weighs only 30 pounds. She loves the seat and is so comfortable while taking naps as well. We put the seat in my car, pushed the latches in on both sides and then the seat does its magic....as you put pressure on the seat, it tightens by itself!! and thats it...no need to pull anything to tighten it. You don't even need to arrange the harness for your childs height because with the pull of of lever in the back it automatically goes up and down! In all the other seats including the Britax you have to mess with moving the belts from one height to another when your child gets taller....but no need to take the SafeGuard seat out...just pull the lever up....Amazing! I hope the other car seat companies will finally get a clue that the seats need to made much easier to install so they can be safe as all claim to be. The only down fall is that it is expensive...not everyone can afford a $430 car seat...but so many people spend so much money on fancy cribs and don't think twice so why do we hesitate about a car seat that might save your childs life?

Worth every penny!

The Safe Guard child seat practically installs itself. It's like something out of Star Trek. It makes the new Britax Regent look cheap! Plus, it will harness a very tall child. If your child is tall and thin, and you want to keep them in a 5 point harness for as long as possible, this is the only seat that will work. If you are wondering if it is worth the price, trust me, it is!

Comments from the Staff: Excellent feedback. It's always great to receive comments like this. No doubt, this seat is expensive; but everyone we've talked to who has seen and installed one is simply amazed. Every product should have a 'Best of the Best' . . . and for carseats, the SafeGuard is IT!.
