Worth the Price

Best car seat we have ever seen. Can be used for a long time due to weight and height standards. Very solid!

Excellent Carseat

5
Reviewer: Parents of 2 , California Date: September 19, 2007
We just love this carseat. It seems super sturdy and I love the way the harness strap secures our child. I feel that our 3 1/2 year-old daughter is safe and secure and she seems to like it. Her head does not droop forward like it did in our Britax Boulevard (which we now have in our other car)when she falls asleep. I have to say, though, that it was VERY difficult to get a tight fit at first BUT that the professional carseat installer got it in there and now it is super, super solid, like it is part of the car. The installer had to work very hard to get a tight fit - we used the seatbelt installation because we couldn't get a tight enough fit (2003 Volvo XC70) with just the LATCH. The day to day use is very easy and just wonderful. I am a big fan of Britax but this carseat has an easier harness strap adjustment than the Britax and it seems to be a more precise fit - not too tight and not too loose. Our daughter is very tall for her age but there is plenty of room to grow. We will probably buy another one once our 12 month old son faces forward.

Great, but didn't fit!

After researching the Safeguard Seat for 7 months, I finally ordered and received it. I placed it in my GMC Yukon (in the middle of the seat) but unfortunately, it was so big, I couldn't see to change lanes. It created a huge blind spot. Then I thought I would move the seat to the outside even though I've been trying to avoid this. I tried moving it to the outside seat, but because the headrest on my vehicle is "fixed" it caused the Safeguard to sit at an awkward angle and I was unable to anchor it properly or even use the seatbelt to "anchor" it. I was so disappointed that it didn't work. It is extremely heavy duty and I feel that it would have been a great seat. If you drive a car, I don't know how you could use this seat and still be able to change lanes safely. I have now ordered the Sunshine Radian 80 and I'm in hopes that it will be a good fit. It's made of the same type of steel as the Safeguard seat! So far, I love elitecarseats.com! They have been so great and helpful. Just want to give a special thanks to Jamie for helping me so much. Keep up the great work! I will probably be ordering the Safeguard Go as well for my parents vehicle. I hope it will work because it looks supercool (my son will like it!) and super easy to install. The Safeguard seat was very easy to install by the way for anyone wondering.

IT DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS!!

Oh my, this seat rocks!! I cannot for the life of me understand all the petty things people will make BIG issues of. I don't know about anyone else, but I bought this seat for safety. I got that and some!! We are replacing our Recaro YS because our 4 y/o son is outgrowing the 5 pt harness. Our son loves this seat!! A friend of mine bought a Regent and this seat makes both of the others look cheap. This is one rock solid seat. Bottom line is, if you want the safest possible seat for your precious cargo then look no further...this is it!! If your debating if it's worth the extra money, it so is!! And thank you to EliteCarSeats and staff for always going above and beyond. I would never go anywhere else for anything they sell. I love your site! All the info and reviews you provide are unmatched by anyone I've found...thank you and keep up the great work!

Racecar Seat

4
Reviewer: Anonymous , Denver, CO Date: May 31, 2007
The first words out of my husband's mouth when the seat arrived was that it looked like a "race car seat". (Just a forewarning- the seat will not come in the Manufacturer's box which I didn't like especially since there was no styrofoam protection of the seat on arrival, but my husband said there was nothing wrong with it.) Anyhow, we've been using this seat in my husband's new GMC truck now for a month (my 2 yr old son outgrew the height of the Britax Roundabout) and are very pleased with it. It is a very heavy seat, so not good if you want to use it for an airplane in terms of carrying. But, we got this seat because of it's safety features - side-impact protection and that it was all metal vs. plastic construction. The seat fit my 2 yr old son perfectly as he is basically tall and skinny. He says it's comfortable. We like that it is a lot more narrow than the Britax Marathon that we have in our other car. It's padded on the outside too, so it's comfortable for passengers sitting next to him (he's in the center). We don't have LATCH in the center seat, but my husband said it was a cinch to install using the belt straps and tether and it fit really good. I do have one complaint that the auto-strap mechanism doesn't work very well and we have to basically use the yellow knob to tighten him in; however, luckily it's in my husband's car because I can't turn the knob very well -- it's tough to turn for me. Overall, we are pleased with the fit, looks, safety features, and my son has no complaints. We also had comments from friends that said it was a really nice seat just from seeing it in the vehicle. 5-pt harness is a must so, the only other seat we compared this to was the Britax Regent, but since it was backordered, didn't have the side impact protection, and didn't have the max height that the Safeguard did, we decided to pay the additional cost for this one. We also hope this will be his last car seat needed in the truck with the max height capability. Can't put a price on your child's safety. Hopefully, they'll fix the knob issue before I need to replace the Marathon and maybe make one that will be easier to carry on an airplane.

Beefy Seat

4
Reviewer: Anonymous , Longmont, CO Date: May 16, 2007
This is one beefy seat. Overall, we are quite happy w/ it, and the service from EliteCarSeats was excellent. My daughter likes it, and I believe it is the safest seat currently available. That said, it's not perfect, things I wish they'd improve: - Velcro strap holders, like Britax uses, to keep the buckles available and secured out of the way when the child is not in the seat - Extend the knobs used to tighten the straps and put a rubber grip on them to make them easier to use - Add some way to ratchet the latch straps (I can get a tighter fit w/ the Britax pull straps)

Not a Good Fit for My Son

3
Reviewer: Anonymous , Gilbert, AZ Date: April 30, 2007
Overall, I thought the quality of the seat was great. However, I had high hopes that this product would fit my just turned 4-yr old son who is 35 lbs and 42 in. I was very disappointed that it was not a good fit, nor did it adjust as easily or comfortably for me or him. I do not want to have to put him in a traditional booster seat yet, but cannot find other 5pt. harness seats with a crotch strap and harness straps that fit him so well like his Evenflo Triumph convertible seat. He is outgrowing the Evenflo seat, which means I might not have any other choice but to buy a regular booster seat. Or I'll have to wait until the Britax Regent is available :-( Although this SafeGuard seat didn't work for us, Elite Car Seats has always provided prompt and courteous Customer Service and has a wonderful return policy. I recommend purchasing the return shipping insurance if you want to order a product you're not sure will fit or work for you - it will save you a ton if you have to return the item.

Just Okay

Reviewer: Jo , Dallas, Tx Date: April 30, 2007
After reading some of the other reviews it seems that my complaints about the SG are common. 1. The arm straps twist. 2. The built in pad on the bottom buckle is akward. It usually ends up under my son instead of where it's supposed to be. 3. The buckle pieces always fall to the bottom of the straps. So once my son is in the seat I'm digging under him to find the buckles. It's a real pain. 4. Same with the bottom buckle. It's postioned far back in the seat. So once my son is in it's always under him. So I'm digging under him to find the buckle. That's even more of a pain. 5. Most talk about how it fits into their SUV. Width wise it's fine. I have a rear facing car seat right next to it & it fits perfectly. Height wise it's not so fine. It sets so high off of the car's seat that my 3 year old can't climb into it. Also I don't think he'll be able to use this seat up to 65 pounds because by that point he will be tall enough that his head will be touching the roof of the car. He's average height. I drive a GMC Yukon. I'm willing to pay any amount of $$ for the safety of my kids. I think with the high price tag of the SG I was expecting the perfect car seat. Safety wise it probably is. It leaves much to be desired in the ease of use department. So I would say I'm disappointed at this point. Now, my husband installed the seat in the car. He did say it was very easy and really no way to install it the wrong way. I feel confident that my child is safe in the SG. I just waste alot of time digging for buckles! Lastly Elitecarseats.com service was just great. The seat arrived very quickly.

Prefer Recaro

3
Reviewer: Anonymous , Chicago, IL Date: April 29, 2007
We switched to this as our child is approaching 40lbs & we prefer a harness to a booster (& because of the awesome reviews it got here). Safeguard's "frame" may be aluminum internally, but anything on the perimeter of this seat is mushy and moveable. The entire side-impact/head section easily moves a couple of inches when wiggled (even though the seat itself does not). Also, the seat's raised sides can be pushed/leaned out a couple of inches very easily as well. I don't understand the rave reviews for this seat aside from the latch ratcheting itself in & the seat cushion is thick. The material is a lint trap. Our Recaro seat had NO play in its side-impact head wings or the sides of the seat or any where on the seat's structure or perimeter...the Recaro couldn't be more solid. Since this Safeguard is the only seat w/harness up to 65 lbs, we're keeping it, but that is the only reason, to us its still safer than a booster. If Recaro comes out with a harness that can handle more than 40lbs, we'll switch back to Recaro immediately. This Safeguard is also just plain bigger all around, in the Recaro the child's bottom was approx 4" off the carseat bench & her back was 4" from carseat back. The Safeguard adds 4-5" on top of that, so my kid now sits up 8?!! off the carseat bench & seat back (reducing her legroom greatly, which in itself isn?t the safest). Maybe we'll return this Safeguard and use the Recaro as a booster after all!
