Okay, but maybe look elsewhere

First of all, it would get 5 stars for the saftey rating. Great saftey features! However, my biggest issue was how straight up it sat when installed in the base. My son's head would always fall down or to one side. When installed in the stroller, you can choose to have it sitting upright or in more of a reclined position, which is nice. I went through MANY head supports trying to find one that would support his head. The only one that would work was the pads that went over the straps themselves. There is no room for pads that go completely around the head due to the side impact pads. The system is heavy, especially if you have a "big boy" like I do (18.5 lbs at 3.5 months) The carrier is not as easy to carry as the handles that are curved. I have to carry this seat in front of me in the crease of my elbow, and I am 5'6". My mom (5' ) cannot hardly carry at all. The bases are nice, pricy but worth it! Just pop out of one vehicle into the other. The travel system is great. Overall, I would buy again, but hopefully they will make some adjustments, such as a little more of a recline feature.

Bulky and heavy

PROS: This is a safe, attractive and easy-to use car seat. Only Graco and Chicco had comparable safety ratings (based on the flawed, but more rigourous, 2007 Consumer Reports testing), but it's way more stylish than any Graco car seat. It's easy to install, and the height of the shoulder straps is easy to adjust.
CONS: It's heavy, bulky, too wide to fit into an overturned wooden restaurant high chair, has a tiny sun shade, and is more expensive than Graco or Chicco. It's a tight squeeze through the backseat doorway of most cars when the handle is in the carry position. Also, the seat in front of it must be adjusted pretty far forward for it to fit. (We know because we took it with us car shopping.)
Overall, I'd recommend this car seat if you have a big checkbook, big muscles, a big car and a need for style. Otherwise, I'd go with Chicco (especially since they now have a keyfit 30 that goes up to 30 lbs.) or Graco (now that they've introduced some less objectionable fabric patterns).

I've been using the Primo Viaggio SIP seat for 10 months now, and my daughter loves it! She falls asleep easily, likes sitting in it when we are in the car or in her stroller. I feel she is very safe in it, and it attaches very easily to the Pliko P3 stroller. I've used it on the airplane and it fits very well, easy to install and great to be able to use it without the base. I would buy another one without a doubt.

Excellent & Durable

This car seat is now on our 3rd child and we couldn't be happier. Yes, it is heavy, but it is also extremly sturdy and others have commented that they can't believe that it's already been through 2 other children. Even the fabric has held up extremely well. The kids have all been happy in the seat, which makes a happy Mom & Dad. I don't mind the weight of the seat, as I enjoy getting the mild "workout" especially when having to take off the baby weight. We recommend it to anyone...it's well worth the money!

The Best

We love this car seat! My husband and I did extensive research when our little girl was "en route" and decided to purchase this seat along with the Venezia stroller. We couldn't be happier with the travel system. When the seat is attached in the car via the LATCH system it is firmly secure. The adjustable side impact protection is great as it grows with your munchkin and provides extra support. The seat snaps in and out of the car easily and is so convenient when used with a stroller that allows the seat to snap in it, as well (such as the Venezia). Moreover, it is easy to take the car seat apart to clean. We had a mishap where pancake batter (don't ask) spilled all over the seat while at a friend's house and we were able to disassemble the seat, wash it and reassemble it within a two hour time frame. Not only did the car seat come out looking as good as new, but we were able to disassemble and reassemble without any instructions - that's my kind of product! We drove over 4000 miles this summer and wouldn't have wanted our little girl in anything else. It is definitely worth the extra money.

Pretty Good...

Our 8 month old son has been in this seat since he came home from the hospital, and we have put A LOT of miles on it. My husband and I are biologists and drove to Panama (yes, the country) with our then three-month-old son in February. He was happy and safe the whole time, and I was even able to sit in the back seat and feed him from a bottle when it was unsafe to stop for feedings. Overall, we felt entirely safe driving through crazy Latin America with our baby boy in this seat.
That said, I must say that my son sweats like a madman when he's in the seat, even with the air turned on full blast. Also, the straps are sometimes a little wierd with adjustment. That is they will be tight on one side and loose on the other. I found that I can properly adjust them by reaching around the back, however. Still, it's a pain in the bum. Lastly, right after our son was born, Consumer Reports came out with that now infamous review of car seats that was eventually discredited, I believe, because their testing speed exceeded the governmental crash test ratings by 40 mph. Initially, we FREAKED OUT, considering we'd just plonked down $250. However, ignoring that this test has been discredited, the seat failed only when attached via the LATCH system. If you read the actual report, you will see that it passed (at 70 mph) when attached by the seat belt. So, we just attached it that way, which is very easy and I have no problem moving the whole seat from car to car if need be. It is heavy, but big deal. Overall, a winner and will be used with our second son due in November.

The only reason I am giving the seat 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the weight of the seat, it is HEAVY.
I was able to install this seat in the middle seat without compromising any room up front. I was also able to install the seat in 5 minutes when I was 8 1/2 months pregnant. I had it checked by a technician and he said I did a great job and that he likes this seat. It DOES NOT budge when installed correctly. The LATCH makes it very simple to remove and re-install. My daughter was very comfortable in her seat and I loved that it was so easy to snap off the base and into the Pliko P3 stroller. Never has there been an easier seat to take in and out of the car. The winter cover is great, so much better than struggling with blankets that always blow off. I never used any of the strap pads, as my daughter seemed fine without them. The straps never got twisted, and it was always very easy to buckle her in. The tighten/release operation for the straps is very smooth and easy. I am also very happy to say that on top of everything else the seat looks cool! I got the pink one, it is sufficiently girly without being "babyish" looking. My daughter is very tall and has finally outgrown it (at just a bit over 6 months). I am very sorry to see it go, I do just love it. I am replacing it with a Britax Decathlon, and sincerely hope I like that one even half as much as this one.

LOVED IT!

We bought this car seat after it was recommended to us by a carseat technician at our local baby store. We bought it because of it's side impact safety feature as well as it's appearance, ability to accomodate a larger infant and the ability to fit it comfortably in my car (Honda Accord). (We were surprised to find out that numerous other bases were too large for the back seat of a standard size sedan). The carseat was wonderful. Our son loved it. He was nearly 9 lbs. when he was born and grew out of it at about 6 mos. He fit in it well and was quite comfortable. The seat seemed comfortable and plush, especially in comparison to the Britax Companion, which we found to be stiff and rough. We also purchased the Peg Perego Centro stroller and liked the fact that this carseat snapped into it. Only downside we noted was it's weight. It is slightly heavier than other comparable infant carriers. We kept our carseat and hope to use it again for our next child. I would definitely recommend it.

GOOD but HEAVY

This infant seat is very sturdy. Compared to the Graco I had with my first child, this one does not move at all, especially when you use the LATCH system to hook it in. The fabric is very nice and washable, and it looks much cooler than some of the infant seats out there. The side impact protection makes me very secure that my baby is safe. I also loved the snap on cover it comes with as it is much easier to use in Winter than a blanket that keeps falling off--kind of like a ski jacket for the baby that snaps onto the car seat--very handy. There's only one drawback--this seat is HEAVY. If you have any back issues, this is not the seat for you but I guess that's the price you pay for greater impact protection. It works very well with the Peg Perego stroller also, which I love.
