Our Review of the Micralite Fastfold FTS stroller

The Micralite Fastfold FTS is a light and tight folding stroller the has already earned plenty of praise and attention in Europe and the UK , winning the Best Buy Award from Prima Baby Magazine and a 5 Star Editor's Award from Practical Parenting.

With a distinct ergonomic design, graceful maneuverability, and an all-too-easy push Micralite Strollers are making a run at the high-style, high-function, and high-price stroller market pioneered by Bugaboo and expanded by Orbit Baby.

The Micralite Fastfold FTS is now Car Seat Compatible!

More affordable than most of the models offered by those manufacturers, the Micralite also utilizes a 12" air-filled rear wheels and 6" swivel front wheels. However, it is MUCH lighter and differs from those brands in terms of the features, fashions, functions, and accessories presented.

At only 15lbs. the Micralite Fastfold FTS is the traveler's dream stroller: The lightest of its caliber on the market, mounted on a precision engineered aluminum chassis with what is perhaps the tightest fold of any comparable model. It also has the distinctive feature of standing upright when folded. This unique design element coupled with a simple one-step folding process allows you to fold the Micralite up in a snap, then set it up (or down) and out of your way pretty much anywhere.

  • The Fastfold's spring loaded frame snaps it back into action twice as fast.
  • The Fastfold stroller also has a 5-point harness, two recline settings (the recline is somewhat limited), and comes complete with an underside storage basket and rain cover.
  • The Fastfold claims one of the "Best Warranties in the World."**

Micralite offers a Newborn System that comes with a Carrycot, raincover, and an underside storage basket.

Bottom Line: Unlike a Bugaboo, there is no need to remove the seat or wheels of the Micralite to get a compact fold, making the Fastfold much more convenient when dealing with stairs or for a quick transfer from trunk to street and back again.

The Bugaboo and Quinny Zapp do have certain advantages over the Micralite, such as the wide range of style choices and accessories those brands offer, as well as their (limited) carseat compatibility.

Since the distinctive Micralite seems to be aimed at the aesthetically conscious parent, it's strange that the stylistic emphasis that characterizes other strollers in its category was "lost in migration" between the UK and the States. Color choices aside, Micralite has nearly all the benefits of owning those other high-end strollers--plus a few of its own: a small fold, smooth ride, easy push, and a very eye-catching design.

Good, not perfect stroller

3
Reviewer: Kate&Leah'sMom , Farmington, MI Date: February 19, 2008
The Micralite Fastfold is a very good stroller in many ways but there are a few things I'd definitely change. Most importantly to me, I'd change the seat back. It reclines much too far in it's upright position. My 21-month old daughter looks like she's either practically lying down or struggling to sit up. This stroller is also terribly tippy. Don't even try to hang your coat from the handles if your child is not in it (but it is completely stable with a child in the seat!!). Also, the clips on the seat belt are super tight and I've pinched my fingers a number of times now. On the positive side, this is an incredibly lightweight stroller that is AMAZINGLY easy to fold and unfold. I researched strollers extensively and bought the Quinny Zapp before this one. I sent the Zapp back because folding and unfolding was tricky and you are forced to use the 5-point instead of just 3-point and I knew my daughter would not go for that. It would not be really comfortable for a child who is used to a more cushy stroller to spend a ton of time in this one and there is not a snack tray. But if you are looking for fast and easy, this is the way to go.

Good in some ways

I agree with previous reviews. I have had this 7 months. Well built and good big wheels given the weight. No other light weights give you these big wheels that you can "bump down " the stairs. The basket is small and mostly inacessable. The stroller will tip with even the smallest stroller bag on the handle (without the baby in it). But the fold function is unbeatble, the materials are good and not plastic. The steering is inpecable. The sunshade is decorative only.

Nice stroller, needs minor refining

All in all, this stroller is pretty nice as a much more versatile replacement for an umbrella stroller or something a little more quick and handy than some of the other lighweights we've owned. The micralite is very maneuverable and lightweight due to the large rear wheels and narrow frame. The ease of use is stellar. It folds up quite easily with one hand once you get the hang of it. I think for the price, some items of note could have been engineered a bit better. Biggest complaint: the stroller is not particularly well balanced so you cannot hang a diaper bag off the pushbar without the possibility of the stroller tipping backwards if the weight of the child shifts or if you remove her from the stroller. This would be OK if there was a cargo basket that was roomy enough to fit a small diaper bag, but the basket on the micralite is tiny and very hard to access. The seat, as staeed in the description, barely reclines and the mechanism for getting it to work is a bit cumbersome. The sun/bug shade should be included with the stroller as the small canopy is not enough protection alone. I'm not saying the design is bad per se, I just think that for the cost of this stroller vs. other similar strollers, they could throw in an accessory or two other than the cheap rain cover. As I said, other than these issues, the stroller is very well made, easy to use, sturdy and light. It is also very nice looking. I like the large rear wheels and I am able to push this without my giant feet bumping them because the spacing is well thought out. Just don't take out baby before you remove the diaper bag from the push bar or the thing will tip back and make everyone around you give that "what a dope" look.

BEST STROLLER EVER!

Reviewer: Anonymous , New York, NY Date: March 22, 2007
A cross between an umbrella stroller and the Bugaboo. It's is a fantastic stroller! It's so light weight, 10 pounds lighter than the Bugaboo, the frame is so well made and very very easy to fold up. Handling is great on city streets, the big wheels in the back are close together which makes it super easy to go up and down stairs and you can put the brake on and off with one foot. The stroller even comes with shoulder pads and a removable headrest to support the babies head. We have had no problems about our son (two years old) being uncomfortable, in fact he falls asleep in it almost every day. The open weave mesh seat is cool on hot Summer days. I would recommend you get the Winter Warmer foot muff, which has polar fleece padding. You can turn it inside out which is great for Spring and Fall weather too, plus it's easy to remove and clean in the washing machine. The Carry Cot was great for the first few months, so easy to take on and off, our baby slept in it day and night. Two years ago we had the Micralite Newborn system imported from England as it wasn't available in the US. It was worth every penny! I look forward to using it for years to come. Thank you Joggingstroller.com for making this great stroller available in the US. I'm telling all my friends!

Great light weight stroller

Reviewer: Elaine , Cambridge UK Date: November 06, 2006
I have used this stroller in the UK for almost a year now, in combination with the newborn carrycot and carseat adapter. The low weight and small fold size are perfect for getting in and out of the car and house, and great for general shopping and walking. The main downside is the under seat basket which is small and inaccessible, but I rarely need to carry much. Another small gripe are the limited seat positions which do not allow completely upright sitting. In my experience it is better to move the handle 180 degrees from the picture as this prevents tripping feet against the back wheels. I have run a few times with this stroller, but the swivel front wheels aren?t great so I will be buying a new one for running. We have taken it off road for country walks and it performs well ? especially good for lifting over fences! The carrycot in the 'newborn' version can double as a travel cot for the first few months so can be worth the extra money.
