Our Review of the Maxi-Cosi Mico infant car seat

The Maxi Cosi Mico Infant Car Seat has been the European parent's baby seat of choice for years. Word travels fast these days, and American moms and dads have been on the hunt for light and low-profile Maxi Cosi car seats too.

Safety Comes First with the Mico

The Maxi Cosi Mico is a safe and thoroughly tested infant carseat that surpasses all NHTSA safety standards. Lined with impact absorbing EPP foam and equipped with thickly padded, deep side wings in the seat area, the Mico secures and protects babies from 5 to 22 lbs. The Mico's weighted base installs in a rear-facing configuration with LATCH connectors, but you can also install the carseat using only your vehicle's safety belts and the carrier's special belt guides.

The Maxi Cosi Mico has a very narrow profile and a sleek ergonomic design, making it extra easy to get in, out, and tote. Taking the Mico carrier out of its weighted base is easy, and there is a special indicator on the base (green for go, red for no) that tells you if the seat is locked into the base properly.

Comfort is Part of the Package

For newborn babies, the Mico comes with a plush insert that keeps their head stable during a car ride, and well padded harness straps. Most infant car seat carriers have a bulky retractable sun canopy that can get in the way. The Mico, on the other hand, has an elastic canopy that tucks away neatly behind the seat and attaches to the carrier handle when the sun is out and baby needs some shade.

For your convenience, the carrier's handle retracts to multiple positions, and the shoulder straps adjust to four different heights to accommodate a boy or girl from 19" to 29". Thanks to a simple harness adjustment system at the front of the seat, its easy to get the perfect fit every time you sit your baby, safe and sound, into the Maxi Cosi Mico infant carseat.

The Maxi Cosi Mico is part of our newest European travel system. Great seat...just takes some getting used to!

I agree with some of the concerns that others have posted about the Maxi Cosi Mico, but have found it to be a great seat overall. We purchased this seat as it was compatible with the Quinny Buzz stroller. It has been extremely comfortable for my now 5 month old...I like the head support and the colors available. I agree that the center buckle was very hard to latch at the beginning, but once we loosened up the straps (very easy to do with the one touch button) and got some practice, it can now be done with ease. I agree though, that if you lived in a colder climate where the baby was bundled up more, it might be difficult (we live in Hawaii). Also, the sunshade is much too small and we had to purchase the Kiddopotomus sunshade attachment (which works great). We have had no problems snapping it in and out of it's base...very easy and just takes a moment to pull out. Overall, we would recommend it to others.

We love this car seat

We love this carseat...be have two carseats, the maxi-cosi mico and a babytrend carseat. Our son has always been very comfortable in the Maxi-cosi even on long road trips. When he was a newborn, the insert kept him very cozy and comfortable. He seemed lost in our other carseat which we had to fill extra space with receiving blankets. The maxi-cosi is light weight and easy to carry when loaded with an infant. When out of the base it has a nice rocking feature with a rubbarized bottom so it will not slip. The buckle does sit low between his legs making it a little trickier to buckle, but once we got used to it, it wasn't a problem at all. Bottom line - I would recommend this seat. Comfortable for our son, easy to carry around, and comes in cool colors.

Looks great- difficult to operate

After much research, we bought this car seat and the Quinny Buzz stroller to go along with it. PROS: - cute, colorful. We've gotten compliments on it. - lightweight. CONS: - the center latch is extremely difficult to operate. Don't think it will loosen up after a while. It won't. As this was our first child, we didn't know that all carseats aren't this difficult to fasten. - If your child is tall, this seat won't last long. Our daughter is 4 months old and her feet are about to start hanging over the edge. I don't know what I am going to buy for a convertible car seat, but I am not going to be sucked into buying another Maxi-Cosi seat just because of the looks. Looks don't count for much if you can't get your child in and out of the seat easily.

overall - good

This is the first car seat we've ever used, so I don't have anything solid to compare it to. However, so far overall seems good. Easy to carry, looks good, baby likes it. It's not perfect though. Snapping baby in is a little difficult at first, but we got used to it. hardest thing for me was actually getting it into the base. It gets locked sometimes without the seat in it. We use it with the Quinny Zapp, most portable and compact stroller we've found. It folds up to about the size of 4 footballs laid end to end.

Maxi Cosi Happy Flowers Car Seat

Very pleased with the car seat. Our local hospital car seat expert was also impressed. We like that it comes with the infant head roll (which means it's been crash tested). It's also very cute...we get lots of compliments and questions on "where did you get that car seat". Only downfall for us is that it prevents the front seats from being moved back (we own a Honda Civic). So the person in the front seat has to sit "one with the windshield." Great buy, fun and very safe!

Love my maxi cozi!

We have a 6 month old who has used the maxi cozi since she was born. We all love our maxi cozi car seat! It fits easily into our car, and we've never had trouble getting it buckled or into and out of the base. It works perfectly with the Quinny stoller - which we also love. The one recommendation I would make is to have the visor be longer to block out more of the sun.

The car seat looks great, is comfortable, snug and cozy for my infant and certainly very light. I love the rocking base to keep the baby quiet when not in the car. My issues are similar to what the others mentioned - 1. Hard to connect centre buckle. 2. Getting the car seat in/out of the base can be tricky as the grey snap on the base sometimes gets in the locked position without the car seat and needs to be unlocked before putting in the car seat. 3. The sunshade doesnt 'click' into position and keeps sliding down. 4. Wish there were more options for strollers that work with this car seat. The Quinny strollers are either too large or dont recline, the Bugaboo Bee doesnt have a adapter yet and the other Bugaboos are too large. I am using the Baby Trend frame stroller for now and is working ok. Suggestions for for other strollers that work with this car seat are welcome.

Maybe I got the lemon

On the plus side - this seat is lightweight and seems sturdy and is pretty cool looking. I agree with an earlier review, however, in that the center buckle is extremely difficult to connect with the puzzle piece male end. My baby was 5#14 when she came home from the hospital, but is now 8# 9 and 21 inches long and we still have a tough time (maybe it will get easier as she grows). The buckles also appear to dig into her thighs (even with the padding pulled up over the buckle ends) and she screams when the straps are tightened and again if in the seat for more than 1/2 hour. We have also had difficulty disconnecting the male end once attached. The canopy is short and does not stay up well at all (barely covers my baby's head). It also is a struggle to remove the seat from it's base. I should note that I would be happy to put up with all of these issues if I believed this car seat to be much more safe for my baby than competitors, but I'm pretty sure they're all almost equal in safety if installed and used correctly. I have to say I am pretty disappointed with this seat and I was SO excited about it. As a previous snugride and companion owner, I wish I would have gone with the companion again or that I would have had time to wait for Recaro's new seat.
