Our Review of the Maxi-Cosi Mico infant car seat
The Maxi Cosi Mico Infant Car Seat has been the European parent's baby seat of choice for years. Word travels fast these days, and American moms and dads have been on the hunt for light and low-profile Maxi Cosi car seats too.

Safety Comes First with the Mico
The Maxi Cosi Mico is a safe and thoroughly tested infant carseat that surpasses all NHTSA safety standards. Lined with impact absorbing EPP foam and equipped with thickly padded, deep side wings in the seat area, the Mico secures and protects babies from 5 to 22 lbs. The Mico's weighted base installs in a rear-facing configuration with LATCH connectors, but you can also install the carseat using only your vehicle's safety belts and the carrier's special belt guides.
The Maxi Cosi Mico has a very narrow profile and a sleek ergonomic design, making it extra easy to get in, out, and tote. Taking the Mico carrier out of its weighted base is easy, and there is a special indicator on the base (green for go, red for no) that tells you if the seat is locked into the base properly.
Comfort is Part of the Package
For newborn babies, the Mico comes with a plush insert that keeps their head stable during a car ride, and well padded harness straps. Most infant car seat carriers have a bulky retractable sun canopy that can get in the way. The Mico, on the other hand, has an elastic canopy that tucks away neatly behind the seat and attaches to the carrier handle when the sun is out and baby needs some shade.
For your convenience, the carrier's handle retracts to multiple positions, and the shoulder straps adjust to four different heights to accommodate a boy or girl from 19" to 29". Thanks to a simple harness adjustment system at the front of the seat, its easy to get the perfect fit every time you sit your baby, safe and sound, into the Maxi Cosi Mico infant carseat.

The Maxi Cosi Mico is compatible with the Maxi Cosi Perle Stroller. The Perle is a lightweight umbrella stroller, ideal for travel, and even more so when you add the Mico infant car system for it to become a baby travel system.
The Maxi Cosi Mico is part of our newest European travel system. By combining the Mico with the compatible Quinny Buzz or Quinny Zapp stroller (also brand-new to the U.S.) you will definitely have the most unique car seat / stroller combo in the neighborhood. The Mico snaps right into either of these strollers, replacing the standard seat. You can simply set the stroller seat aside for later when your son or daughter has outgrown the Mico. Thank you so much for taking time to share your experience with the Maxi-Cosi Mico with us. We're sorry to hear about the issues you have been experiencing. We contacted Maxi-Cosi in regards to these issues, and here is what they had to say:
Our attachment method is different than other infant car seats on the market. In our instructions on pages 41 & 42 we outline the process of making sure the base release handle is pulled all the way out. A label was added to the base outlining this step. As you know infant car seats are not meant for use on a shopping cart. We feel this is unsafe and don't recommend it. Our stroller adapters need to be in the proper position in order to properly attach to the stroller.

We're so sorry to hear about your disappointment with your Maxi-Cosi Mico. We wanted to take this opportunity to respond to a couple of your concerns.
First, regarding the the use of the Mico with shopping carts, I know it can be inconvenient, however we support the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) recommendations against such uses. For some alternative options or to read their full press release regarding safe shopping cart use click here.
In regards to your stroller adapter, we would love some more information from you on this. If you purchased an adapter that specifically stated it was compatible with the Maxi-Cosi Mico, the manufacturer of the adapter should be notified of incompatibility. With these cases it is the stroller company's responsibility to test compatibility with infant car seats if they are selling the adapter to work with specific infant car seat models. It is only the car seat manufacturer's responsibility if they manufactured the stroller and/or adapter in question. Either way, if you could provide us the necessary information we would be happy to assist you in figuring out the appropriate steps to take to solve this problem.

Dear Dorel Juvenile Group Inc. Customer:
Dorel Juvenile Group (DJG) is issuing a Consumer Ease of Use Information for the base only of certain Maxi-Cosi® Mico? brand child restraint systems manufactured from February 18, 2008 through December 11, 2008. Our data indicates some consumers have experienced difficulty when attaching or detaching the child restraint to the base. We feel it?s important to provide you with the Consumer Ease of Use packet which will include labels and a consumer tip sheet. This may make the Maxi-Cosi® Mico? infant child restraint easier for you to use. If you still own one of the seats listed below, please click here to register to receive the Consumer Ease of Use packet and labels to place on your base free of charge or call our Maxi-Cosi® Mico? Base Hotline at 1-877-657-9546, Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4:30PM EST to request a Consumer Ease of Use packet. The affected seats should not be returned to the retailer.
The models affected are manufactured from February 18, 2008 through December 11, 2008 and include Maxi-Cosi® Mico? child restraint systems 22-371, 22-372 and a Maxi-Cosi® Mico? base 22-515 purchased separately from the child restraint. DJG encourages parents to obtain their free Consumer Ease of Use packet and labels as soon as possible.
