Our Review of the Kids Fly Safe CARES Aviation Restraint
Make young kids safer on flights without lugging a car seat thanks to the Kids Fly Safe CARES Aviation Restraint. The only harness-style child safety device approved for aircraft use by the FAA, the CARES restraint keeps kids from 1 year and 22 lbs up to 44 lbs and 40" safe during flight.
Standout Features:
- Lightweight and easy to pack
- FAA approved
- Easy to install
- For us with children from 1 year and 22 lbs up to 44 lbs and 40"
Benefits for You: Perhaps the biggest benefit is to your back - no more hauling a heavy car seat through the airport and down the aisle. Since the CARES airline harness installs in under a minute, you'll avoid dirty looks from passengers trying to board while you install a car seat and harness a squirming kid.
Best of all, the CARES airline child restraint comes with full FAA approval. Certification has also been approved in many other countries. FAA regulations state that airline personnel cannot restrict the use of CARES. If you get a question, point out the FAA certification label.
And because the CARES aviation restraint takes up less room than a bulky car seat, you'll enjoy a little extra elbow room on your next flight.
Installation: Installation couldn't be easier. Attach the red loop around your child's seat and then slide the seat's belt through the black shoulder harnesses. Ta-da!
Before traveling, check to see if the seats have TVs on the back, which may prevent you from using CARES - the red strap could go right across the TV of the person behind you.
Benefits for Baby: The FAA recommends placing your child in a restraint during air travel, and the CARES airline restraint meets all FAA regulations.
Older kids may react positively to sitting in the CARES harness system since they'll look more like a big kid than they would sitting in a car seat. The minimal size of CARES also leaves more room for getting comfortable.
Safety:
- FAA approved for use on aircraft
Comparison: There is no comparison. To get the same level of safety, you'll need to install an FAA approved car seat in your child's seat. If you prefer the car seat route, we love the Sunshine Kids Radian car seats (including the Radian, Radian 80, and Radian XT), all of which fold for easier transport. Of course, the Radian convertible car seats are quite heavy, which makes them hard to carry through an airport.
