Our Review of the Joovy Caboose stroller
Built on a stable but minimal aluminum frame, the Caboose Stroller from Joovy has all the conveniences of an easy folding single stroller, with an added bonus on the back that sets the Caboose apart from the pack. The Joovy Caboose has a special platform behind the front seat that allows older kids to stand on the rear of the stroller while their younger sibling sits comfortably in the car seat compatible* harness seat up front.
The result is a top quality "Stand-On Tandem" that has the size, weight, and compact fold of most other single strollers. A lot of thought and consideration went into the design of the standing platform at the back of the Joovy Caboose. It allows the toddler to stand and lean back against the handles, hold on to another set while they face forward, or to sit down in a rear facing padded seat when they get tired.
- The rear facing extra seat of both the Joovy Caboose and Big Caboose is equipped with a 3-point safety harness.
The only problem you may have to face, and this comes with the territory of parenting, is keeping your toddler from leaping off the platform while you push. Joovy designed a strap for the rear passenger that will support them while they stand, preventing them from making a break for it.
Bottom Line: The Joovy Caboose is truly unique amongst the single strollers on the market today, and offers long-term usability that few other strollers can match. By disguising its tandem double stroller capabilities with a single stroller's appearance, this light weight, easy to steer, easy to fold "Stand-On Tandem" is getting good reviews from customers and the staff of EliteCarSeats alike.
There are a few missing amenities (like a cupholder or parent console) but there's little else to point out that's a negative. The huge range of car seats* that can be used with the Joovy Caboose stroller give it long term usability (and trade or resale value) that you just can't match. You can start using your Joovy the moment you return from the maternity ward, on through the development of your first child, and keep on rolling after you've had your second and the older child is ready to stand on the platform or sit in the rear seat. It is truly a great design.
