Our Review of the Inglesina Zippy stroller

The Inglesina Zippy is a valuable contribution to our extensive lineup of car seat compatible baby strollers. We have been waiting in anticipation, but after finally getting some in from Italy and having the chance to give them a test run, we are more than pleased with the results.

Cookie Magazine gives the Inglesina Zippy a 5 star review and says "It's got everything you're looking for." According the Cookie, the Zippy offers a good price, lightweight portability, and city-ready maneuverability.

What features make the Inglesina Zippy stand out from other umbrella strollers?

The Inglesina Zippy is a welcome addition to the mid-sized umbrella stroller market. It packs only the best, most useful features and conveniences demanded by today's parents into a single light and durable package. The ultra-simple folding mechanism and car seat compatibility make the Zippy a good choice if you plan to use the stroller from your child's infancy and need to make regular transfers from the car to the street and back again.

Many of the Inglesina Zippy's features (such as a fully adjustable sun canopy that provides shade from any angle, a large underside storage basket, a cupholder for you, a snack tray (and a bumper bar) for your passenger, and a 4-point recline for the padded seat) are more or less standard issue on most new strollers.

Another feature that sets the Zippy apart from the pack is four wheel independent suspension that provide a super-smooth ride on bumpy roads or sidewalks. This suspension system just might make the difference between a sleeping child and a screaming child when you try to navigate questionable streets or take your Zippy stroller on a light off-road adventure.

    • The Zippy works with children from infancy to 45lbs. It comes complete with a rain cover. With optional accessories like the Saccontino Footmuff, the Zippy can be configured for use across all four seasons.

Compatibility: The Inglesina Zippy is compatible with the following infant car seats:

Note: The 2007 Zippy is compatible only with the Compass I420 Infant Car Seat.

What is so great about the Inglesina Zippy stroller's one hand, one-step folding mechanism?

One of the key selling points for the Inglesina Zippy is its near-instantaneous folding mechanism and freestanding-when-folded feature. The Zippy is the only true single-hand fold stroller.

    • To fold the Zippy, you need only grasp the rear handle with one hand, push the release button with your index finger, and lift. Your Zippy can be folded and ready to go in the time it took you to read this.

In addition, he Zippy will stand on its own when folded, making it much easier to stow in a closet or corner. To return it to action just pull up on the release trigger on the handle and the Zippy will spring back into stroller mode.

Bottom Line: The Zippy is part of the Italian Made family of high quality baby strollers and travel systems, and its closest competitors are the Chicco Cortina and the Peg Perego Pliko P3 Classico, both of which are more affordable than the Zippy. The cost difference reflects the convenience of the one-handed and freestanding fold, a tougher frame, and the availability of a Bassinet and matching accessories.

The Inglesina Zippy is an all-around excellent choice in umbrella strollers, but the high price tag may be a deterrent for some.

    Just about Perfect

I have the 2008 Safari Zippy and I have to say it is close to perfect. It is on par with the Peg Perego Pliko and may be a good alternative to the Pliko/Primo Viaggio combo. I have a Pliko Lite that I have loved for the past two years but I really missed having a stroller with a few more features than the streamlined Lite. For someone interested in a great travel system I don't think the Zippy/Snugride can be beat. The Zippy is plush, folds like a magic trick, has a great suspension and has great details like the loop for attaching your keys, pocket and rearview window all on the ENORMOUS hood. I have owned both a snug ride and a primo viaggio and would prefer the snug ride due to the weight and upright angle of the primo viaggio . . . It is mostly khaki. The orange is just an accent color - you don't walk away remembering an orange stroller. It is precious for my little boy. I'm thrilled to have a Zippy!

Zippy is truly superior to all

My son was 16 months old when we needed to get an umbrella stroller because the previous one broke. I wanted a light stroller with a tray and an accessible basket at the bottom. I did thorough research - as I always do before buying anything - and there weren't many to choose from. First I got the Pliko P3 by Peg Perego but I couldn't deal with its many less-then-perfect features. So I had to return it. I also considered Chicco's Trevi but its bumpy ride turned me off. Finally I tried the Zippy in the store and fell in love with it instantly. First of all, it comes with a tray AND a bumper bar, they are interchangable, or you don't have to use them at all. Secondly, it is a smooth ride, easy to maneuver on all surfaces. It is comfy for baby, cushioned, and it is available in great fresh colors. The basket at the bottom is good size and perfectly accessible from the side. Although we don't use this feature because my son does not go to sleep in a stroller, but it reclines all the way so it is great for napping. It is very easy to fold it. Parents have a cupholder and a large pocket on the canopy to store things. Overall, it is great, comfortable, easy to use lightweight stroller with all the amenities, and it's pretty too. I can't think of any disadvantages. I am regretting not getting this stroller right from the start, since it also takes ANY carseat.

    Awesome stroller

I bought this stroller and could not be happier. I love that it's lightweight and easy to maneuver. You can really open it with just one hand. We have never had a problem with kicking the wheels. I have a peg perego and I find this stroller to be lighter and much more convenient. I also love the saccotino for the winter months. She is snug and cozy in her stroller.

    Excellent stroller

    Reviewer: Elizabeth , Babylon,NY Date: January 15, 2007
I bought the Zippy stroller last year(2006 in Rose) when my DD was an infant. She is now 8 months old. This stroller is excellent. It folds up nicely, fits in the trunk of my Honda Accord and there is still space left over for shopping bags. It's lightweight and very easy to use. I bought this as a second stroller to keep in my car due to it's features. I have a back injury and I needed a lightweight easy to use stroller and the Zippy is it. I can steer it with one hand. And I'm on the tall side and my feet do not hit the wheels. Excellent stroller, well worth the price.

    Customer Review From www.babyage.com

I felt I had to write a review after reading CQ DX's review. I've owned the Inglesina Zippy for over a year, and I have *never once* encountered the problem that this reviewer is so vehemently warning everyone about. Aside from being great looking, the stroller is incredibly functional and well-designed. It's lightweight, you can open it with one hand (what an incredible feature when you are holding your baby in your other arm!) and it's great on all sorts of types of terrain. Someone else mentioned the Bugaboo. I personally think the Zippy is a much smarter buy. I'm sorry that others have had a problem with kicking the wheels, but I had to counter that review with my own very happy experience with this stroller

    Customer Review From www.babyuniverse.com

I researched and researched strollers before buying our Zippy. It is true that is easily folds down one-handed, but we have found several other things missing. My husband is very tall, 6-5 but I even found that my feet hit the wheels when walking. The other problem I have experienced is that you must use both hands to steer it. I wish I would have bought a stroller that steers one-handed (like the peg perego). We do love how small it folds down--it has been a great stroller that we used with an infant car seat and now has become our smaller "umbrella" stroller. It is also very easily when traveling by plane. (as far as its folding and weight)
