Fine with the 5 point harness

This car seat was in my husband's car for our almost 4 year old son. My husband's car was not the primary vehicle but he does use it quite a bit with our kids in it since I work weekends and second shift a lot. My son is now too tall for the top slots of the harness, so I took out the harness in order to use it as the booster (maximum weight with the harness is 40 lbs and my son is not yet at that weight; he is just too tall). After using the booster without the harness for just one day, I decided to buy a Britax Regent in order to keep him in the 5 point harness longer. My son almost slid under the seat belt in the CarGo (even with a coat on) and kept putting the shoulder belt under his arms. The 3 star rating is because I cannot comment on how well it would be as a booster -- I just wanted to keep my son in a harness longer. With the harness, I really did not have many complaints about the CarGo. The belt clip across the chest was sometimes hard to open and I wound up pinching my fingers a few times and my son would sometimes complain that the straps rubbed across his legs. If you don't have the money to spend on a Britax I think this is a fine seat with a harness.

I purchased this for my 2 1/2 year old daughter. It was a tough decision with so many on the market but i was looking for all the key safety features. This seems to meet them all along with a nice price. We are Britax users but found this seat less expensive and just as good. I would highly recommend it.

Great for travel

I wanted to write this review because I searched for recommendations for car seats for airplane use and was unable to find anything. We bought 2 of these seats for our children aged 2 and 4 and just used them for 3 airplane journeys (note you can do this only with the 5 point harness option, not the booster seat alone). The seat is great, lightweight and easy to carry through an airport (especially if you use a pac back). It fitted perfectly into an airline seat (leave off the cup holders) and was surprisingly easy to fit using the lap belt. The fit felt very secure with little sideways travel. Best of all, our kids travelled better in this seat - they were quite content to stay put and were pretty comfortable for a 3h+ journey. One thing to bear in mind is that the seat is quite narrow, which was OK for our skinny kids, the belts were also difficult to tighten with the kid in place, but we did eventually get a snug fit. I wish they made a version with the harness slots a little higher as I would like to continue using this seat with my four year old for as long as possible.

Great car seat

I love this car seat. I especially liked the fact that this will be the second and last car seat we'll need to buy since it accomodates up to 100# (local law requires child seat use up to 80# or 4'9"). I also like the memory foam which makes it very comfortable on long drives. The cup and snack holders are also used by my son quite a bit on long trips. The seat is pretty easy to take apart to wash. However, the clips that hold the cloth cover on the seat tend to break in the washer. The cover stays on reasonably well without the plastic clips, but it doesn't hold the seatbelt back from my son's face when used as a booster seat these days. However, I DO plan on purchasing another Platnum CarGo seat for my younger son when he reaches 20#.

All-around solid value.

Hard to argue with the Graco Platinum. Straightforward installation; easy in/out for kids; comfortable padding even on long drives (or so I hear); good belt adjustments; durable, easy-clean fabric; eeeexcellent snack and drink holders for growing "I can do it"-ers. What more can one ask? A little more side-impact protection for the head would earn the fifth star, but then I'm a parent, not a crash expert. I've bought and used
Britax and
Recaro models, impressive all, but if you want to be safe AND save for the college fund -- you can buy this Graco model without guilt. Six months after our own purchase, no regrets and indeed very pleased. Glad we stepped up for extra padding and features of Platinum over Ultra model, glad that college fund is a little farther along (and btw, glad we did business with EliteCarSeats, very informed and personable). In short, I've found the Graco Platinum to be the best all-around bang for the buck.

good choice for a second car

It's a good price and seems to be a comfortable seat. It's great that it's so light and so narrow -- both seem unusual in the car seat category. With two seats in the back of our Outback, an adult can fit in without being totally squashed. We use ours as forward-facing carseats for a 2 1/2 YO and an almost-4 YO. My only criticism is of the buckling gear, which is a bit tricky to use. Specifically, (1)because there are no stops on the straps, one is having to dig buckles out from under toddler behinds with each use. And, (2) unbuckling the chest harness is a bit clumsier than other carseats I've tried. So, for using multiple times a day, this is frustrating; but for the occasional use in a second car or extended family, I think it would be a very good value.
Comments from The Staff:
As I've mentioned with other reviews on this subject. One source for checking out if and how well a seat fits your car is CarSeatData.org Also a good place to help others by putting up your own comments about fit for others to see.

Effective, light and easy to install

This was the second of this type we bought - now our two girls have matching (almost) car seats. They are close enough in size that they can switch off - which is fun for them. These seats take up less space (width) than alot of others. We manage to have them on the sides and still have an infant seat in the middle. Yes, that's right! A third one came along but we're staying with the regular car (sedan) for now. One good thing - those seats are NOT moving sideways ... that's for sure!! Only thing that could be better is more cushioning on the side for when they fall asleep. But they do fine and we have been on long trips.
