If you want to keep your child rear-facing for as long as possible, you'll want the Graco MyRide 65. With a rear-facing limit of 40 lbs, your child can remain rear-facing well past their first birthday and probably into their 2nd or 3rd year. The MyRide 65 from Graco also offers a 65 lb forward-facing limit and side impact protection for maximum safety.
Standout Features:
- Rear-facing to 40 lbs
- Forward-facing from 1 year and 20 lbs up to 65 lbs
- Cupholders fit cups and juice boxes
- Side-wings for side impact protection
Benefits for You: Perhaps the greatest benefit is the assurance gained when your child remains rear-facing longer thanks to the MyRide's 40 lb rear-facing weight limit. With research indicating that kids are safest rear-facing until at least 2 (and possibly older), choosing the Graco MyRide is one of the safest moves you can make.
For convenience, the MyRide 65 offers a machine-washable seat cushion. Cupholders keep your little one satisfied and your eyes on the road.
The MyRide 65 is approved for airplane use. However, the cupholders give the seat a large footprint, making it a tight squeeze in ever-narrowing airplane seats.
Installation: The MyRide 65 installs rear-facing and forward facing. You may use LATCH or your vehicle's seat belts. The tether may be used during forward-facing installation only.
For easy installation, Graco provides color-coded belt paths so you know which paths to use for rear or forward facing installation. LATCH storage keeps LATCH connectors out of the way for when you install the seat using your car's seat belts.
In an innovative move, Graco provides 2 sets of lower anchors - one for rear-facing use and another for forward-facing use. This feature eliminates the need to re-route the lower anchors when switching from rear-facing to forward-facing installation.
Important Note on Installation: Graco prohibits using LATCH for a child weighing over 48 lbs. Once your child hits 48 lbs, you must use the seatbelt for installation. Seatbelt installation is just as safe as installation with LATCH. Always consult your vehicle owner's manual before installation - some vehicles have lower LATCH weight limits than that given by Graco.
Benefits for Baby: Children benefit from the safety provided by the high rear-facing and forward-facing weight limits. Rear-facing, the MyRide 65 fits children from 5 to 40 lbs. Forward-facing, the MyRide 65 fits children from 1 year AND 20 lbs to 65 lbs.
Why such a high rear-facing limit? Research shows that children sustain fewer injuries in a collision when positioned rear-facing. Indeed, there is a push among safety experts to keep kids rear-facing until 2. In Europe, many parents keep their children rear-facing until as old as 4! With the 40 lb weight limit, your child will probably be able to remain rear-facing past their 1st birthday and maybe even into their 2nd and 3rd years.
Graco made sure to consider both your child's safety and comfort. Dual cupholders keep baby's must haves handy. A removable toddler headrest ensures comfort while harness pads keep kids sitting happily. An infant body support cushion provides extra support for newborns.
While there is no recline for the forward-facing position, the MyRide 65 features a naturally deep recline and deep side wings that keep your older child comfortable during the inevitable nap. Rear-facing, the MyRide 65 uses reclining feet to help place the seat at the proper angle for rear-facing installation.
Comparison: With the introduction of the MyRide 65, car seat manufacturers have stepped up to provide higher rear-facing limits. The Sunshine Kids Radian 80SL has been tested to 40 lbs rear-facing and provides a forward-facing limit of 80 lbs. The Radian 80 folds in half and has a much narrower profile than the MyRide 65, making it a good travel option. As an added bonus, the Radian 80 fits 3 across in most vehicles.
The Britax Marathon accommodates kids from 5-35 lbs rear-facing and from 1 year and 20 lbs to 65 lbs forward-facing. The Britax Marathon makes for easy in and out of the seat with a handy one-pull harness strap adjuster.
