Our Review of the Dreamer Design Ditto Deluxe double stroller

Dreamer Design has taken the next step in their very popular line of "roomy" single and double jogging strollers by introducing them all in improved "Deluxe" versions. The Ditto Deluxe is Dreamer Design's upgraded version of their 2005 Ditto double jogger and the Ditto Lite. The Ditto Deluxe offers a number of new features that you wont get with the Ditto Lite, as well as a rain cover to protect your kids from the elements. Although the price difference between the Deluxe and Lite models is significant, there's a number of elements which give the Deluxe considerable added value.

What do you get with the Ditto Deluxe that you don't with the Ditto Lite?

  • New fabrics with reflective trim
  • Alloy wheel hubs (won't rust)
  • A 20 year warranty for the frame
  • More length (52" vs. 43")
  • An adjustable handlebar
  • "V-Brake"
  • 1 step folding

Naturally, the Ditto Deluxe features Dreamer Design's signature "bubble" sun canopy - which is very wide and can be adjusted to pretty much any angle - to provide shade no matter what the time of day or direction you've chosen. Being a double stroller, the Ditto Deluxe has two independently adjustable canopies: one for each seat; so your toddler can sit up and catch some rays while your infant reclines in the shade. Most doubles have one oversized sun shade.

Dreamer Design uses well padded 5-point harnesses that adjust to accomodate bigger kids. The patent "roominess" of Dreamer Design jogging strollers could be translated as "bulkiness". Even though the Ditto Double is designed to fit through most standard doorways, it has a wide wheel-base and does not fold up all that compactly. You may need to remove the front wheel to fit your Ditto Deluxe into a trunk or closet, but the addition of 1-step folding and the "V-Brake" has made this process much easier.

Bottom Line: If you are a serious runner (with twins or two small children) looking for a well-designed, fixed-wheel jogging stroller with adjustable handlebars, the Ditto Deluxe will definitely satisfy your needs. The 16" air filled tires compensate for rough conditions on rugged roads or trails. Also, the Ditto Deluxe has a ton of side pockets(some zippered) and uses new, softer and lighter fabrics than the Lite. The addition of a "V Brake" - the same type used on high-end bicycles - on the front tire improves this jogger's tracking significantly.

Weighing in at 33 lbs., the Ditto Deluxe is certainly on the heavy end for double strollers, but one really great thing about the Dreamer Design Deluxe series is that they offer a 20 year limited warranty for the stroller's frame, which you will not find with most other jogging strollers on the market.

We Love this Jogger

Reviewer: Anonymous , Urbana-Champaign, IL Date: October 31, 2008
I have recently started running again after a nearly decade long hiatus and I needed a jogger so that I could run with my 3 year old and 18 month old. My boys are extremely tall for their ages (and pretty sturdily built as well) so we really needed a stroller that could grow with us! This is the only jogger that comfortably fits my boys with plenty of room to spare. It is also an awesome stroller. Easy to push, easy to remove wheels, easy to fix any quirks (the jogger was pulling left so I just adjusted the front wheel and ta-da it worked great). This is certainly not a light stroller (stroller + boys=103 pounds) but if you are like me and your only chance at exercise is with kids than it is SOOOOOO worth it! My boys totally love riding in it and get very excited when mama puts on her running shoes. I love this stroller so much and recommend it to anyone with tall/large toddlers.

Love it!

This is the only stroller that had enough head room for my tall toddler to ride in without the sun canopy hitting his head. It also fits through the doorway of my local grocery store. It's perfect for jogging or walking around the neighborhood. As with all double joggers, it's not too fun to pack and go with, but it folds up easy and doesn't need to be disassembled to do so. I'm very pleased.

What a Bust!

This is my second Dreamer Design double jogger. The first one (a previous model) really was a dream and I loved it. I'm so sorry I gave it up for what was supposed to be better and "improved". This stroller is so hard to turn that I alway end up with a terrible back ache after walking with it. I feel like it has been a total waste of money. I would not recommend buying this stroller. I feel guilty even trying to re-sell it to someone else.

New design not an improvement!

This is the second dreamer design that I purchased, and I was very disappointed with the performance of this stroller. The Dreamer Design Ditto Deluxe is very difficult to turn compared to previous models. I have the single Rebound with 20 inch wheels and it turns and pushes perfectly. My neighbor has the double Rebound that is 3 years old, and it too pushes and turns very well. However, this model does not turn well at all. I have an inexpensive baby trend jogger that I leave at my parents, and would compare its maneuverability with it! However the features that are great are the high seat back, and the many pockets to put things in. Also, the adjustable handlebar is great! I decided to return this stroller and go for a Performance Baby Jogger double. (Oh, the foot brake didn't work when we received our dreamer either).

Comments from the Staff

A non-functioning footbrake would be under warranty from Dreamer Design and you would have no problem having it repaired or replaced. If it was a high-performance running stroller you were looking for from the beginning, you made an excellent choice with the Baby Jogger Performance Double.

They almost got it

Reviewer: Northseamama , Kenai, Alaska Date: June 08, 2007
We have had our Ditto Deluxe for little over a week. We have used it four times and have a mixed review. We bought this particular stroller for three features: 1)the seats recline so our kids can sleep in comfort, 2) there is adequate head room for our rather tall three year old, and 3) the handle is adjustable so both of us can push it in comfort. We have only praise for these features. Same for the basic funtion. The stroller rides and pushes very nicely. It folds easily, and the wheels come off with the push of a button. Nice features. No complaints. However, we think they missed an opportunity by not including a large storage shelf/pocket under the stroller. Large storage pockets are advertised, but we found them to be small and not very usefull. The pockets under the seats are oriented such that we are concerned about things falling out. The draw strings can solve this on the main pocket on each side but they are also inconveniently placed. We don't use the these pouches. There is a big wasted space under the seats. A cloth shelf-like pocket spanning the frame under the seats would allow us to carry a blanket, shoes that invariably come off our kids feet, snacks and our jackets, that also invariable come off as we warm up. And not least it would carry the not so small rain cover that is so considerately included with the stroller. We cannot figure out why this larger storage space was not included. It seems to us like an obvious and useful ammenity. Our only other critism is that customer service was not as good as we have come to expect. We paid a hefty fee to get the stroller to Alaska in short order. Technically the stroller arrived on time, however in fact it took five full days. Had the company made an effort to get our shipment out on the day of the order it would have arrive in the promised two days, rather than after the long weekend. Lastly, they forgot to include the promised rain cover in the orginal order. Instead of expediting it to us, they sent it regular mail so it arrived a week later. So three stars, good basic product, but missed opportunity for a useful ammenity and service that was only so-so.

disappointed

Just bought and received the Dreamer Ditto Deluxe and am very disappointed. I live in NYC, and find it awful for a city dweller. It doesn't fit through most doorways, and does not fold easily. I'm not sure how anyone could call it 'one hand folding', and even folded it's still almost 28" high, which is still hard to get through doorways. Plus, the tires don't roll when folded, so it's very hard to carry. There's a foot brake that broke the first time I used it, and, inexplicably for a jogging stroller, no safety wrist strap. Definitely not recommended.

Comments from The Staff:

Gosh, I am so sorry to hear that you are having so many problems with your dreamer jogger. Sounds to me like there may have been something wrong with the stroller you had gotten, like there was a defect in the folding mechanism or something. Not to mention you were missing the safety wrist strap, all joggers should come equipped with that. If you are still within your 30 days, we would be more then happy to get this returned for you, and help you find a jogger that would suit your needs more. Just let us know!

way to go!

Thank you Jogging stroller and Dreamer Design, this really is a nice stroller!. It is a bit larger, about 3" longer, but it's perfect for taller kids. My child is 3 but very tall for his age, and with a new born as well, I didn't think I would find a stroller that they could both fit in.

The nice thing is, is that you can still turn it without hurting your wrists, and the color is perfect, and very sporty. I am not crazy about the pouch under the seats, I would have prefered a basket, but with all the other nice features, it's not a big deal. When I called Dreamer Design regarding this they said that they were going to change the pouch to a basket in the future. thanks so much for a wonderful purchase!

Great for older children

Reviewer: Anonymous , Cincinnati, OH Date: January 19, 2007
Just purchased the new 2007 Dreamer Design Ditto Deluxe. It is definitely an improvement over the 2004 Dreamer design double stroller. This is my third Dreamer design stroller over the past five years. In general the strollers appear to hold up very well. I run approximately 30 miles per week with my two and five year old and they love the new stroller. My five year old outgrew the 2004 model due to the height of the seat back and the canopies would hit her head. The new model has some upgrades and some pitfalls. The seat back height is much higher and will probably accomodate a 5-6 year old child comfortably. The stroller is much taller and little difficult to turn. The old strollers only required gentle pressure on the handlebar to turn, but this stroller does not turn as easily with this maneuver. The front wheel has to be lifted off the ground to make a sharp turn, and if you are not tall this requires a bit of effort secondary to the height of the stroller. The stroller does not fit through my standard 32 inch door due to width between the back wheels, unlike the previous models which were only limited by the width of the handlebar. The adjustable handlebar height is nice if your are tall, but not as useful for a shorter person. In fact the angle of the handlebar makes elevating the front wheel difficult. The stroller is very large and probably not compact enough for travel. The pockets in the back of the seats and for the children are similar to their older models, except that the under the seat storage has been reduced to two small drawstring bags, which unfortunately are not large enough to accomodate the stroller covers. The front wheel unfortunately was placed in the middle of the footrests for the children which interferes with using a rain cover. Blankets also rub against the side of the wheel and need to be tied out of the way. I would assume in the summer bare feet might also get too close to the front wheel. I'm not sure why they didn't put a guard over the wheel between the footrests. This is a design flaw. Overall, I would recommend this stroller highly if you are looking for a stroller to accomodate your older children and think Dreamer Design makes a great stroller.
