Our Review of the Compass I-410 infant car seat

Along with the huge success of the I-400 light and portable infant car seat, Compass now introduces their newest infant car seats, the I-410 and I-420. Safety is priority #1 for Compass, and the I-410's focus is on improved side-impact protection, top-notch materials, higher carrying-capacity, and above-the-board safety testing. Essentially the same as the original I-400 (with an updated look), Compass has designed this infant car seat to be the ideal in safety, comfort, and simplicity of handling.

Compass I-410 and I-420 infant car seats are the lightest we have available at EliteCarSeats, and although Compass is known widely as "The Booster People", these seats are proof that Compass can produce infant car seats that are as high quality as a Peg Perego, but at a more modest price. The quality materials used in Compass car seats makes up for the minor price difference between an I-410 and the very popular Graco Snugride.

Is the I-410 Infant Car Seat safe?

EPS foam lining (the same used in bicycle helmets) in the I-410's side impact zone give it a higher degree of impact protection while its 5-point harness and deep seat provide additional safety and cushioning. The weighted base of the Compass I-410 secures firmly to your vehicle's LATCH safety restraints, and has a knob adjustment system to set the car seat at its proper angle. The steel-to-steel locking mechanism that affixes your infant seat to its base is very strong and of the highest quality. A clearly labeled lever in the back of the seat makes removal from the base a minimal effort: just pull the grip upward to disengage the locks, lift, and the lightweight (7.5 lbs.) infant carrier is up and out.

You know your baby is safe in the I-410, but is he or she comfortable?

The answer is definitely yes. A retractable sun shade will keep out excess sunlight, and the smooth lining material and a triple-layer of padding along the seat and sides assure that your baby rides in maximum comfort. The entire seat lining can be removed with just a few button snaps and tossed into the washer for easy cleaning. Compass has established a legacy of success in creating high-quality car seats and boosters, and the I-410 is their latest and greatest imprint on the infant car seat industry.

Proven Safe!

Reviewer: Tiffany , San Francisco, CA Date: July 26, 2008
I got this seat to replace my son's uncomfy Graco and am I glad I did! At 7 months old we had a terrible accident and the seat took it in stride. He was in the window seat where we were hit. Having the cannopy up and the boot on he didnt have glass on him, the metal connectors kept the seat in the base and my baby safe. To top it off; COMPASS GAVE ME A FREE REPLACEMENT! They paid to ship the damaged seat back for research. I'm now looking at Compass booster seats for him. This company is tried and true!

Good for first time mom

Reviewer: Leneah, , Fort McMurray, AB Date: June 23, 2008
The Car seat is great and my son loves it. Each time we go out for a truck ride, he falls asleep. The only thing a didn't like about it was as my son grew and began to gain weight. The seat gets very heavy to carry around. It makes a 12 lbs baby feel like a 30 lbs one.

Great Seat

Reviewer: Amanda , Seattle, Wa Date: June 16, 2008
I have loved this carseat. The only thing that wasn't my favorite was the non-adjustable crotch strap. When she was a newborn I rolled up receiving blankets to put between her legs and the strap to hold her up a bit higher in the seat. I don't know about it lasting until 2 year-old-age. My baby is 6 months old and 28 inches long and 18 lbs. Still, you can use it for longer than most seats on the market, big baby or not. My baby is always comfy in it. She even rode from Central California all the way to Seattle in it at 4 months old. We were in the car for 10 hours and she was totally great with it. My friend gave me a graco to use in the second car and I was shocked at the difference. I would never ever put her in it. I never used it because it seemed so flimsy comparatively. Bottom Line: COMFY, SUPER-SAFE, Lovely care seat.

I love this Car seat

Reviewer: Anonymous , Cherrryville NC Date: February 01, 2008
I am a single Mother. This is the best seat. It Is lighter than most seats it would be nice to not have to use a base but I still love it. My son is now one and he is still in it. But it is heavier now. But I love the seat and the stroller. I picked this out and my Father got it for me. My brother has a son that is 7 months older than my son and got the graco. I really checked the seats out before my son was born and went with the compass, I went with the right seat. This one Is the best. Now I am looking at the toddlers.

Excellent choice for an infant seat!

Reviewer: Anonymous , martin, tn Date: April 02, 2007
I bought this seat for my june 2006 baby. He is currently 9 months old and still fits in it great! He's 17lbs and 27" which means he STILL has room to grow in it. The seat itself is super light but he makes it a bit to heavy to haul around now. I love the padding and the EPS foam this seat offers. Only two things that people need to know, 1) it can NOT be used without the base but it's really not hard to undo the latch clips and move it and 2) it can not be put on a shopping cart. There are no slots on the bottom of it to hold it in place. Other than that, I HIGHLY recommend it. Those two things never bothered me.

Great for big babies!

Reviewer: Anonymous , West Bloomfield, MI Date: September 10, 2006
I have babies that get big fast! I know how great it is to be able to carry your sleeping baby from the car to wherever you may be, the longer I can do that, the easier my life is. I did a lot of research and found that this infant carrier can hold kids up to 30" and 22 lbs.! That's practically a two year old! I am enjoying the portability and freedom that the Compass provides. Thanks for shipping so quickly and your customer service reps were super knowledgable!

Wonderful Seat

5
Reviewer: Stefani , Dallas, TX Date: November 28, 2005
I went out on a whim with this carseat when I bought it in May. However, I have never regretted my decision in the least! It is incredibly easy to install and to operate. I also love how light it is compared to other seats (Peg Perego, etc.) When we purchased it, the price was $169 - and it was definitely worth every penny. Now with the lower price it's a steal. We recently took our son on an airplane w/the seat and base and found it relatively easy to transfer. I love all of the safety features and the added bonus that we can use it for a little bit longer b/c of the heavier weight/longer length maximums...which is wonderful when you have a 9.5 newborn! one thing to be cautious of: as my son gets bigger, it is not possible to strap him in with a jacket so colder climates might have more difficulties. The foot cover works well for this, but we added some velcro straps to keep it in place with kicking feet.

The best I have found...

Reviewer: Heather Brown , Aubrey, Texas Date: October 28, 2005
I bought this car seat to go along with my S310 Carriage Stroller. I absolutely LOVE this car seat. The padding is thick, (made of bicycle helmet foam)making it safer in impact as well as more cozy for our baby. The 5 point harness is a comfort to me, as the car seat we have been using is just a 3 point, and I am assured that 5 is safer. I like the steel handle and the firmness of the canopy. It stays put when you extend it. I wanted a car seat with a cold weather boot, and this seat has just what I was looking for. The fabric used in the car seat, canopy, and boot, is high quality and thick. This car seat has so many more ways to adjust than the other seats I have seen and used. The adjustments are also very easy to make. I am impressed with this seat and would recomend it to anyone looking for a good quality seat for a reasonable price.
