Our Review of the Compass B505 booster seat

The Compass B505 booster car seat is the newest "Cool Kid Approved" addition to the incredibly popular line of Compass booster seats. Compass spent 2 years designing and testing the original B500 Booster, which won a JPMA Award for Innovation in 2004. If you have a toddler or young child that you travel with frequently, there are few boosters on the market other than a Compass that provides so much comfort, safety, and versatility for such a great price.

The Compass B505 has most of the outstanding features of Compass' other fantastic booster seats, minus a few features to make the B505 more affordable. A wide seat with a triple layer of padding provides maximum comfort, while the flip up armrests make it much easier to get your kid in and out of their seat. Kids love the sturdy retractable cupholders that are angled forward slightly to accommodate the natural lean of your automobile's seats, and the use of energy absorbing EPS Foam* in the B505's frame adds extra impact protection, so you know your child is safe when riding in their booster.

Compass Boosters also features a 6 point height adjustment that's very simple to use (fits children up to 100lbs. from 38" - 57" tall with no gap in back support--no matter what the height setting); durable fabric that can be removed completely and tossed in the washing machine; and Compass' exclusive folding booster design that makes moving and stowing your booster a snap. A Compass carry bag is available for storage and trips with your booster.

All of the adjustment mechanisms used on Compass boosters and car seats are clearly visible, with bright colors and clear labeling making them easy to see and use. The "twin rail" design of the booster's footprint allows you to place it in the center 'hump' of the backseat, as well as behind the passenger or driver's sides.

What can you get with the Compass Compass B510 and Compass B510 Premier that you miss with the B505?

  • Larger headrest and deeper side wings, providing optimal side impact protection and comfort for sleeping toddlers
  • Improved belt path for a better fit with children of all sizes – especially beneficial for taller children
  • Headrest tilts forward to fit newer vehicles with extended headrests

*EPS Foam is the same material used in bicycle helmets. The Compass B505 has surpassed International Side Impact Standards.

One hot & sexy booster seat...

Reviewer: Jonathan , Portland, Maine Date: March 19, 2008
Great value! Looks like "high end"! The boy will love this! We looked at lots of booster seats. I broke many of the cheap ones at the big box stores just taking them off the shelves. We need an additional one and we'll be buying another Compass B505. I love the fold-and-go option. It fits perfect in my Honda Civic Hybrid and the True Blue matches my Blue interior spot-on. Very happy camper... Jonathan

100% Satisfied Mom and Preschooler

I read many reviews on booster seats, as well as shopping for seats in person. After shopping around, the Compass B505 was an outstanding choice. I love the way the cup holders are able to hold a cup without it tipping over and another big plus is the headrest. My child loves to look at the road signs and name the different businesses. The headrest still comes around enough for protection, and allows for viewing scenery without craning your neck. I have a quite picky child that does not like change, so the transition from the Britax car seat to the Compass Booster was a remarkably smooth transition. Also, Elite Car Seats offered the best price and free shipping. The booster and Elite Car Seats met my satisfaction 100%. I will be buying another one for my in-laws car.

Strong, sturdy and safe!

I have tried many booster seats in my days and I really prefer this one. The others are flimsy and come apart. The others seem so cheap but not this one. I usually am a britax fan but I didn't like their boosters. This seat is great, strong and seems more safe. Every time my daughter sits in it, she say; "oh, comfy"! She loves the cupholders and I like that is folds for portability. It has the EPS foam in the headrest and the armrest move up so you can get the seat belt in easily. The fabric is great, and strong so it should last for years. It is also very padded and a more roomy booster seat. My daughter is slim and it fits her just fine. I have heard it fits bigger children wonderfully as well. I highly recommend this seat, you can't go wrong. You have to wonder about those other booster seats you have to put together. Will they hold in a car crash?

These booster seats are great. My grandchildren love them. They are learning to buckle themselves and unbuckle. They are very comfortable and they can see out the windows of the van good.

Perfect Booster Seat

Reviewer: Debra , London UK Date: August 20, 2007
We love this booster seat for my 4 yr old son. It's really comfortable for him and I love that it folds b/c we travel a lot - so it's so easy to pack up and also it not heavy at all. He loves the cup holder and they are within reach for him to use - as soon as my youngest is old enough to move into this seat I will be buying another one!

So great!

Reviewer: Twin Mom in NoVa , Ashburn, VA Date: August 15, 2007
I've got twins and they were ready for the booster seat. As most moms of today, I went and checked out the britax booster. I was so not impressed and, more importantly, neither were the boys. So I checked into the Compass ones. We went to a store to try them out. The boys gave it their seal of approval. I checked out the safety reviews on them and was impressed. So then, I bought the blue B505's first. We all loved them. So much so, I got a second set of boosters in the Aurora print. I love the fact that they adjust easily and still protect the child. The folding up feature is brilliant. Then the bonus was getting the compass carrying bag (which is reasonably priced) and taking the booster seats on vacation. So easy! (Kudos to elitecarseats.com who helped me make sure the carrying case would fit my seats. So friendly and helpful.) I highly recommend this booster to all my friends.

Great booster seat!

My four year old daughter loves her new big girl booster seat. I really like how well the seat is padded to make long trips more comfortable for her. The flip-out cup holder and the fact the seat folds up for storage (or to transport it) are just two more features we love!

This seat is spectacular!

We all adore this seat. We sought EliteCarseats advice on booster purchase and we were thrilled with our decision to purchase the Compass booster. We now have two for our oldest child and will be purchasing a third for our son when he is ready. We have used britax seats, marathon and Roundabouts since 2000. We needed to travel with our children and loved the idea that it folded and was lightweight and easy to carry. We have the travel box and it worked great to check it with our luggage. The fabrics have held up really well with daily use for over 2 yrs. Its easy to adjust and works extremely well for our extra tall children. Our daughter is 7yo and the height of about a 9yo but is only 50lbs and she is extremely comfortable heightwise and width wise in the seat, with plenty of room for growth. Her friends love it when we car pool, its extremely easy to fold, store and pass on to others for safe and effective use by all sizes of children. Our daughter loves the cupholders and the fact that it fits her comfortably. We have a 2003 Toyota Sequoia with a compass B500, a britax marathon and a britax roundabout installed in the second row. We know it works in a Dodge Durango 2004 second row with a Britax marathon installed and two compass boosters and also works in the Durango with a Marathon, a Roundabout and a compass booster. We will be travelling again to NY and checking the two compass seats for our 7yo and 4yo (who still normally travels in a Marathon). We will be taking the Roundabout for our 1yo on the aircraft. I have recommended this seat to friends and family and everyone has been totally satisfied with it.

My 6 year old loves this big boy seat. Helps him to be able to see out the car window and he can get in and out on his own, freeing up my hands for our one year old.
