Our Review of the Bumbleride Indie stroller

Bumbleride line of fashion forward and fully functional baby strollers continues to evolve, and the Bumbleride Indie is the latest phase in that evolution. The Indie all-terrain stroller sports some major technical improvements over the company's previous offerings. Lighter and more compact than the Bumbleride Rocket, the Bumbleride Indie has everything a busy parent needs in a stylish baby stroller.

BENEFITS FOR MOM & DAD

For you, the Bumbleride Indie stroller offers a very easy push, a compact fold, and a fantastic look and feel. Added conveniences like a versatile car seat adapter and adjustable handlebar sweeten the deal - while accessories like a matching car seat cover (for complete coordination of your car seat and stroller) make the Bumbleride Indie a top choice for discerning moms and dads.

CONVENIENCE

At only 19 lbs and capable of functioning as a light-use jogging stroller, the Bumbleride Indie is on the light side for all terrain strollers. The swivel wheel makes the Indie stroller extremely maneuverable. For light jogging or walks over challenging terrain, the front wheel locks into a forward position for easier handling.

In addition, the Indie's compact fold (plus a carrying handle) makes storage of your baby stroller in a trunk or closet extra simple. The large underseat storage basket and cupholder simplify any outing by enabling you to bring what you need, and still have room to buy a thing or two along the way.

Included accessories with the Indie:

  • Cupholder
  • Footmuff
  • Tire air pump

PUSHABILITY

The Indie's 12" air filled tires make for an easy push over ANY terrain, indoors or out. It's also very light for an all-terrain stroller and the locking front swivel wheel allows you to make turns in tough spots, and roll smoothly through even the densest crowds or store aisle ways. The adjustable handle height allows for parents or caretakers of different heights to push this Bumbleride baby stroller with ease.

COMPATIBILITY

The Bumbleride Indie comes complete with an Infant car seat adapter that accepts these popular car seats:

SAFETY

The Bumbleride Indie baby stroller is equipped with these safety features:

  • 5-pt harness
  • Foot brake
  • Front bumper bar

BENEFITS FOR JACK OR JILL

The lightness of this stroller, coupled with air-filled tires, allows it to absorb shock very well - creating an easy push for you and a comfortable ride for your baby. Safety and comfort features like the 5-point harness and 4-point recline (all the way to flat) assure that your baby boy or girl will be as content as can be in the Bumbleride Indie.

COMFORT

Once your baby has outgrown the carseat, the roomy seat and soft fabrics of the Bumbleride Indie stroller will keep them secure and content while you stroll. The infant headrest insert, thick seat padding and shoulder pads create an all-encompassing comfort. Kids also enjoy the front bumper bar, great for hanging toys or holding on to.
The included footmuff accessory will keep him or her warm when the weather cools, and the fully reclining seat provides an ideal place to rest or sleep while mom or dad stay on the go.

  • The Bumbleride Indie baby stroller has a 45 lbs weight capacity

COMPARISON

The Phil and Teds Sport and the Valco Runabout Tri-Mode are two close comparisons to the Bumbleride Indie. Both accommodate growing families and have comparabel features, but the Indie offers deluxe fabrics, included accessories, and distinct features - all for a lower cost than either the Phil and Teds or the Valco stroller.

Bumblerides' previous all terrain stroller, called the Bumbleride Rocket, had similar stats and features to the Indie, but was bulkier and offered a smaller storage basket.

First time mom

Overall I really like the Bumbleride Indie stroller. I took my time and reviewed many strollers before chosing the Indie. I chose the Indie because of the large sun shade, reclining seat, and large air-filled tires. The best thing about this stroller is it rolls over any terrain smoothly. I can take it on grass and stear it with one hand with no effort. I can do the same on pathways made of loose rocks. I haven't tried sand yet. I love how roomy the stroller is and my 4 month old daughter is comfortable and content in it. I also like how the foot rest is adjustable. I am disappointed with the sun shade, I find the sun gets in my daughter's face and bothers her at certain angles(but I think this would happen with any brand of stroller). I also wish the seat would recline fully, this would be benificial for naps. The stroller is also very bulky when it is folded and it takes a few times before getting the hang of folding it up. I also wish the storage basket was larger, I cannot put my mid-sized diaper bag in it but my purse fits fine. I have to hang my diaper bag on the handle, which works out fine for me. This stroller is not perfect; however, compared to the other strollers on the market I think I made a good choice for the money. This stroller has a lot of good qualities to it and when I use it people always inquire about it.

Excellent All-Terrain Stroller

Choice between BOB Revolution & the BumbleRide Indie: The Indie takes only one-third of the SUV trunk while the BOB have decent shocks on the rear axle. Indie is 6 lbs less then BOB. Indie is the winner (until the baby goes off-road)! The Indie shares the fabric sets with 2007 Rocket strollers. The Rocket fabric sets (purchased for $50USD) contains a complete canopy, complete bumper bar, boot fabric, and seat fabric. A good deal if you do not mind last-season's colors. The cup-holder is in the wrong location entirely & it interferes with the stroller folding. Any mountain-bike handle-bar accessory including the bottle-holder will enhance the Indie. The included seat adaptor bar works well with the Chicco KeyFit-30. The Indie will be less responsive in direction changes with an infant seat clipped-in. (Since more weight will be distributed to the front wheel.) The infant-seat-with-stroller is stable on grass & dirt. (The stroller manual discourages off-road use with the infant seat.) The parking brake / wheel lock is "toe-friendly". Customer-service staff is fantastic (located in San Diego, CA). Email questions are promptly answered & accessory orders are processed efficiently.

Couldn't ask for more

I love this stroller. I get the most compliments on it. My daughter is now 8 months and it is still in great shape. This is my only stroller and I use it at the store, mall and mostly to go walking or at the soccer field. It is so easy to push and manuver, especially in the grass and gravel. When I first received the Bumbleride Indie, I noticed that a snap fell off so I called Bumbleride and they sent out a new cover. After a few months, the canopy didn't seem to hold it's shape, so I called customer service again and they sent me a new canopy (a better one). Also, one thing is that it does not lay flat. At it's lowest setting, it has a sligt incline. It didn't bother me and my daughter is fine sleeping in it. She been using it since she was a few weeks old. So over all, I love this stroller and very glad with my decision to get it.

It's Good, But....

My wife and I recieved a 2008 "Indy" as a gift, we had requested it after reading great reviews. However when we recieved it, the canopy did not fit, nor did the cup holder(important if you use it as a jogger). We contacted the company immediatly and were greeted with great customer service, they sent the replacments right away, which is impressive. When we got the replacemnts the canopy fit, but it falls down when we're walking, so we're constantly pushing it back up, and the cup holder was the same except someone had taken a utility knife and carved the hole bigger. We weren't impressed with that. It's not something you would excpect from a $400+ stroller or company like this. We are currently in discussions with the company concerning these things. So far they have been good about it, they are sending the proper holder, and a replacement canopy(which makes 3 now) and they are sending an accessory, with an apology. So let's hope that the new parts work properly because it really is a nice stroller and we want to keep it. Best customer service I've encountered in a while.

Indie All the Way

5
Reviewer: Carrie , Fairfield, CT Date: May 11, 2008
I had reviewed and tested lots of strollers before deciding on the Indie, and am 100% certain I made the right choice. The Indie has it all: dreamy steering; huge basket; large canopy with peekaboo window that has a clip so you can keep it open; beautiful recline; toy bar so my daughter has access to her favorite "keys"; foam-padded, adjustable handlebar; beautiful colors (we have the seagrass); footmuff, which we still have use for here in CT in May; cupholder; relative compactness and ease of collapse; awesome, large footbrake; and excellent customer service. Can I rave about this stroller any more? Oh, yes. It rolls smoothly over street, cracked sidewalks, twig-strewn dirt, basically all surfaces we've tried. My only complaint was that the cupholder was too small to snap on. I called BumbleRide, spoke with some very nice, laidback Californian who shipped me out a new cupholder with a larger opening. And Voila -- It's Indie All the Way!

2008 Indy, Pretty Impressed

Reviewer: Anonymous , Lethbridge, Canada Date: April 25, 2008
Overall this is a great stroller. The cons: folding is a pain in the butt but once you've got it you'r alright. I had problems with a rear tire being defective upon arrival and the manufaturing company promised to have a replacement sent to our vacation destination which never showed up. They have promised again to have a replacemnt sent to our home now that we are back, so we will see. When you spend $400 on a stroller you expect that all will be in great condition. Quality seems a bit iffy-the material all seems really nice but the actual stroller(madein Thailand) frame I am curious to see what happens after a good 6 months of use. It is lightwieght and very stylish and I love the canopy- the canopy was the big sell for me compared to many strollers in its class where reviews mentioned the canopy was small..... Very light weight as well and once folded it is nice and compact.

Great stroller!!!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Modesto, CA Date: March 31, 2008
I researched strollers A LOT before making a purchase. I needed an adjustable handle bar since my husband is 6' 5" and would kick the tires on other strollers. I have used this stroller from infancy through toddler hood with all the options and features. The universal car seat adapter works on any carseat. A fully reclining seat was a must for my baby that usually falls asleep on rides. The removable belly bar is great for my growing toddler. I used the removable footrest on our daily walks when it was chilly out, and it kept her nice and warm. The only downside to this stroller is that you can't fold it up with one hand. This is a well constructed stroller, and I would absolutely reccomend it.

Bumbleride Indie Stroller

Reviewer: Jennifer Nailer , Hollywood, CA Date: December 20, 2007
I bought the Indie a few weeks ago and I love it. It fits easily in my car, takes up 1/3 of the trunk. It turns easily when I'm shopping and it locks in front to go straight when I run or jog. It has great features for the price and for how light and small it is, its amazing. The only con is that the fold takes a few tries to learn. Once I did, it was a breeze.
