Our Review of the Britax Vigour stroller

Select fashions on SALE for $279.99! Regularly priced at $349.99. Save up to $70 (20%)

The Vigour is the best stroller offering yet from Britax: a travel-system ready stroller with sleek design elements and a long list of parent-friendly conveniences. Part of a new movement toward what could be dubbed the "beefed up" travel system, the overall configuration of the Vigour resembles the hip, adaptable urban travel systems offered by Bugaboo and Micralite. To its advantage, the Vigour has a much lower cost and a number of features that set it apart from the strollers offered by those brands.

For starters, the Vigour is fully compatible with the top-rated and reviewed Britax Companion infant car seat—making the Vigour a complete travel system that is useful from your child's infancy. It has many now-standard stroller features such as an adjustable handlebar, plenty of storage, and a one-step braking mechanism. What sets the Vigour apart from its closest competitors is its "infinite" recline settings that can go from upright to a full recline (or anywhere in between); the reversible seat; the option to fix the front wheels forward; and the fact that (unlike a Bugaboo) you can fold it with the seat still attached.  Thanks to the Vigour's all-wheel suspension system and big back tires, it's safe to presume that you'll always get a smooth ride.

The Bottom Line:

The Britax Vigour is part of a growing movement in stroller design that was sparked by the massive popularity of Bugaboo Strollers. The idea is rather simple: 12" air filled wheels in the rear and smaller swivel wheels in the front (the Vigour's front wheels are 7.1"). While this configuration does not make a stroller suitable for jogging, it does open up your strolling possibilities . . . making a wider range of terrains available than a simple umbrella stroller (which has no chance in the sand or snow) does. With large rear wheels you gain the additional benefit of shock absorption and all-terrain capability. Other strollers (like the Micralite Fastfold or EasyWalker) with a 12" rear wheel and small front swivel wheels fold up tight and handle smoothly, and you can take them many more places than "standard" umbrella strollers like the Inglesina Zippy or Chicco Cortina.

So how does the Vigour stack up?

The Vigour is a high quality "beefed up" travel system stroller. Relative to a Bugaboo or Micralite FTS, the Vigour is much more affordable. You can 'click and go' with the Britax Companion carseat (perhaps the best infant seat on the market) right out of the box. No adaptors or straps needed. It does not have a bassinet accessory, if that's important to you. The Vigour's major drawback is the limited weight capacity (only 40lbs.) and a relatively high weight for the stroller itself (29lbs.); so it's heavy, and you won't get year after year of use from it unless you have another baby. Overall, the Vigour is a safe, affordable option for anyone seeking a multi-use travel system stroller that can take you anywhere

Best Stroller Ever!

5
Reviewer: Melissa , Jackson, MS Date: December 11, 2007
This is seriously the best stroller out there. I have many friends with all kinds of other strollers and mine is by far the best. My friends have stroller envy! The stroller is so easy to use. When used with the Companion, it is so easy to just unclick the seat from the base and click it on the frame. You can also turn your baby to face you or the world. Our little one is 10 months old now so she gets to ride in the seat part. She is about 20lbs and fits perfectly in the seat. There is plenty of room for her to grow into it.

Great Stroller, could use a little refining...

I love our Britax Vigour. It rides smoothly and handles great. My 6 ft-3 husband has plenty of room to comfortably push and it is much more stylish than the typical stroller. I would definitely buy it again given the choice. My only thoughts for improvement would be, to have a snap on drink/cell phone holder and a purse/bag hook. I am sure it can be bought after market, but it should come standard. As a quick fix, I have put a little velcro bracelet around the handle for hanging purse and/or bag. Second, the shade canopy should have more rotational adjustment. Since it only has two positions: fully open or fully closed, and no means to rotate further, the baby gets bright sun in her eyes on late afternoon or early morning walks.

disheartened

Bought this stroller because I wanted my 8 month old to be facing me for a little while longer, he had grown out of his car seat that attached to our other stroller. For the price, this stroller was not what I had expected. It does not turn well at all, the seat is really small, my 8 month old is already almost too big for it... I was hoping to have a stroller that would be big enough to last a little longer than it looks like it will... don't waste the money on this stroller...

Overall, it's decent

Reviewer: Anonymous , Sacramento, CA Date: October 27, 2007
This stroller is certainly attractive and stylish...no doubt one of the better-looking ones out there. I bought it for the reverse seating feature, and the fact that the seat bottom tilts up as you recline the seat. On these merits, it fits the bill. My two main problems with it are first, its size....absolutely huge when folded, and the seat part needs to be taken off to fold it to a size that can fit anywhere. Then, you have a separate, cumbersome part to deal with. Secondly, the seat bottom is ridiculously shallow. My 21 lb. 4-month old already seems to just fit, and I have to recline it fully to allow gravity to keep him from feeling like he's falling out. I don't know that we'll make it to a year in this stroller. Had they given a couple more inches in this area, I would overlook the size/cumbersome issue. As it is, I'm looking at putting it up for sale, since I really need something that will last longer for us.

Great for taller parents

4
Reviewer: Anonymous , Pacifica, CA Date: September 07, 2007
I am 6' tall, so I wanted a stroller I was not bending over for and here came the Vigour. My husband is 6'5" and it is borderline for him. He still kicks the back wheels every now and then but it's much better than the other strollers we tried. I also have the Companion Car Seat and it was so easy to place on and take off. My only gripe is my daughter is getting older and she will be tall like us and i don't see her lasting much longer in it. Other than that, handles great, pushes right through terrain. And you don't have to take the seat off to fold down, although it folds much flatter if you do.

Britax Vigour

Reviewer: Bethany Snyder , Ann Arbor, MI Date: August 13, 2007
This stroller is easy and fun to push, and it looks great. My concern in that my 12-month-old fills the entire seat and his feet reach the foot rest. This probably makes it a good seat for the first year or two of life, but I can't see how a toddler would fit very well.

Vigour Stroller and Companion Seat

5
Reviewer: Anonymous , Columbus, OH Date: May 16, 2007
The Vigour has been outstanding! I purchased it since it is compatible with the Companion infant seat. It handles rough uneven sidewalks, big curbs and even pretty good size pot holes. It also maneuvers well when in stores shopping! It is very easy to fold up and throw in the car. We walk a ton around our community and the two have been wonderful together! Many people stop and comment positively on the system. I have a few walking friends who used the Graco Snap and Go with their infant seats, they have now purchased jogging strollers to better handle the terrain. I bought this stroller in hopes that I would only need one and so far so good! It has been great with the Companion carrier and I am looking forward to using it with the full stroller seat as he grows. I would recommend a drink holder of some sort for those nursing mothers who are in constant need of liquids! I could not be more pleased with both purchases!

Comments from The Staff:

Thank you very much for your great review Patricia! Please let us know if you have any questions on any other products that we carry and we would be more than happy to help. In regards to the cup holder, I would probably recommend the Liquid Holster.

Excellent Stroeller

4
Reviewer: Shawn , MN Date: March 10, 2007
This stroeller is the bomb. It is so nice to take your matching Britax car seat out and plop it securely in and go! No straps! Rides smooth, looks cool. I also like that you can switch the stroeller seat around to face you, or face forward. That is nice. Folds out and up as easy as any stroeller. Highly recomend, especially if you have the Britax carseat! Works great cruising around the mall, or walks outside.

Like it so far

Reviewer: Anonymous , Burlington, VT Date: March 02, 2007
It was virtually impossible to find a universal carrier stroller to fit the Britax companion carseat and we returned many. When we discovered this stroller we were sold on the fact that it was made by Britax and wasn't a small, flimsy stroller like their others. So far we have used it for 3+ months and like it. The pros: great maneuverability and good in adverse conditions (from inside stores to mud puddles!), a very smooth ride and quick collapse and set-up, solid construction with good fabric. Cons: Takes two hands to collapse, have had a little trouble attaching car seat-really have to check to make sure it has snapped in, large size when collapsed (takes half the back of my Subaru wagon), still have to use a jogger on snowy sidewalks. We haven't used it with the stroller seat attached yet but it looks decent. We'll have to see. If I had the chance to do over from the beginning, we probably would have gotten a Graco snugride carseat and a simple universal carrier to save money and the hassle of finding one to fit the Britax that we liked. All in all, we are happy with this one thus far.
