Our Review of the Britax Roundabout convertible car seat

With the introduction of the new LATCH laws, Britax has improved even further upon their famously popular Roundabout Convertible Car Seat. This car seat has been praised by just about every consumer safety organization and mom and dad out there - and for good reason.

It is easy to install, compatible in just about every car, super comfortable for baby, stylish and most importantly safe! Ask around and you will see that everyone raves about this car seat.

The functionality of the Roundabout with LATCH is just about the best for any convertible car seat on the market. You can't go wrong with these innovative features:

  • Velcro anti-tangle belt and shield holders
  • One-pull harness tightening
  • Five-Point polyester harness with three adjustable shoulder heights
  • AVersatile contour base.

In addition, the Britax Roundabout is available in seven different fabric patterns. The fabric cover is easy to remove and is machine washable.

Yes, the Roundabout car seat is definitely good looking, and highly functional, but safety is what really matters - and the Roundabout is packed with innovative safety solutions. Whether your car is LATCH compatible or not, the Roundabout is made to be installed correctly every time. This translates into a safer seat for your child. It will take a bit of practice but you will get it down in no time.

In addition, the Britax Roundabout features the Versa-Tether™ system, EPS impact foam (similar to bike helmet material) around the baby's head and torso, and one pull harness strap adjuster.

Trying to decide between the Britax Roundabout and Britax Marathon?
Just think of the Roundabout as the little sister of the Britax Marathon.  The Marathon is identical in all comfort and convenience features but has a higher weight maximum, and is therefore larger than the Roundabout.  The Britax Marathon will still fit in alomst every vehicle type in the forward-facing position, but may be too large to be installed rear-facing in smaller back seats.

Advice on Finding the Roundabout Storage Areas
For your convenience and safety, the LATCH connectors on the Roundabout have been stored in the LATCH storage area under the cover. To access the LATCHes, lift the cover off the seat from the bottom and you will find the recessed LATCH storage area under the foam. Another way to determine if your Roundabout has LATCH connectors is to look on the child?s right side of the seat; there you will see the harness lanyard which connects the LATCH harnesses to the seat shell.

Authorized Britax Dealer
Britax maintains an authorized dealer network which protects you from buying used, illegally imported, or fake Britax Car Seats. In addition, Britax warranty only covers car seats purchased from an authorized retailer. Britax products purchased on eBay or any auction site voids the warranty.

Great seat!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Los Angeles, CA Date: June 24, 2008
My 12 month old daughter was getting whiny in her infant car seat and once we switched her to the Roundabout she hasn't complained once! The installation was simple and, once installed, the seat wouldn't budge at all. I am very happy with this purchase!

I SWEAR BY BRITAX

5
Reviewer: Ashlynsmom127 , Daytona Beach, FL Date: May 02, 2008
I was recently involved in a SERIOUS car accident. My daughter was in the back seat in her Britax Roundabout. I was traveling at approximately 60mph and hit a car that turned in front of my SUV(It was not at fault). My daughter's seat DID NOT MOVE an inch!!! She didn't have any marks from the seatbelt either. My husband was hesitant about the seat at first because he saw the $$$. My vehicle was a total loss and I am still amazed that she didn't have a mark on her. I will be replacing her Roundabout with a Monarch, as she is ready for a booster.

2nd time around

Reviewer: Anonymous , Nebraska Date: March 30, 2008
We bought our 1st roundabout 7+ years ago and have added another one, a Marathon, & 2 parkways. Our kids love their Britax seats. We live in a secluded area, the closest gallon of milk is 1/2 hour away and the closest neighbor is 4 miles. So we travel alot and our 4 kids ride very well. Which we attribute to having paid the extra price and bought the better seats. We just replaced the 2 Roundabouts and one Parkway due to being in an accident which we filed on our insurance claim and got reimbursed for them. It was a "like kind" reimbursement and we were happy that it was. Thanks Britax for a quality seat!!!

Roundabout convertible car seat

Reviewer: Anonymous , Kansas City, MO Date: March 02, 2008
We LOVE this car seat!!! This carseat is small so it fits easily into our car. It's easy to adjust the shoulder straps and the velcro on the sides are great for holding the straps in place and keeping them from becoming tangled. The seat sits up high enough for our son to see out the back window. Our son used to cry in his old carrier car seat and he was always so sweaty. Now he's comfortable, and rarely sweaty when we take him out of the car. It is also very easy to take in and out of the car when you have to switch vehicles.

Great Carseat!

5
Reviewer: Shelley , Pittsburgh, PA Date: February 21, 2008
I am thrilled with this product! Although she had not yet grown out of it, my seven month old hated sitting in her infant carrier... she didn't seem to like being reclined anymore once she could sit on her own. After a lot of research and a recommendation from my pediatrician, I selected the Roundabout. It was easy to install and seemed very comfortable for my little girl. I was pleased with how the seat fit in the back of my small car. I love the two seat settings, allowing me to recline the seat a bit if she is tired and likely to fall asleep, or keep it totally upright if she is wide awake. It is also extremely easy to adjust the straps to accommodate whatever she is wearing (heavy coat, etc.) The puma print is adoreable, and I've never seen another carseat quite so fun. Also, the speed of delivery with Elitecarseats.com was amazing... I ordered it on Monday, and with regular (free!) shipping, it arrived on Tuesday afternoon! Perfect!

Best Investment I EVER Made

Reviewer: Anonymous , Boston, MA Date: January 21, 2008
I purchased this seat two and a half years ago for my daughter. After a rollover accident where she was left without so much as a scratch Britax will be replacing our seat for free. I've never been more thankful that I invested the money in a very safe and very comfortable seat for her! I will never put her in anything other than a five point Britax restraint.

Love it!

Reviewer: K Kelly , Virginia Beach, VA Date: January 08, 2008
This carseat was hard for me to buy because it seemed like so much money, but my parents bought it for my daughter and I couldn't be happier. She's extremely comfortable in it, and it seems to let her sit in a more natural position than other seats. The padding is much softer. My only complaint is that its kind of a pain to transfer from one car to another. Note this is not using the LATCH system, but the traditional way of buckling. I have not set it up for use with the LATCH to see if its easier that way yet.

We took 4 Roundabouts on a 4-year road test

5
Reviewer: John & Debbie Willins , Watertown, Mass. Date: December 31, 2007
We have twins, we own 4 Roundabouts, and have used them in both our vehicles for nearly 4 years. We currently use them in a Volvo V70 wagon w/ LATCH, and a Honda Civic without LATCH. We've used them in every way possible: both forward and backwards facing, with and without LATCH, in big cars and small. We've also taken them on airplanes and installed them in rental cars. No problems. These seats will work in pretty much any vehicle and travel with you too. Reasonable size means no installation worries. (If we got 2 of them in a Civic, it must be doable.) Summary: a safe, practical, comfortable and versatile ride. Excellent product.

Problem with straps

3
Reviewer: Anonymous , Tacoma, WA Date: December 14, 2007
I love this carseat BUT just after we got it one of the straps twisted and I can't get it untwisted. I have to contort the strap in order to get it to insert in the buckle. I don't want to have to return it but I can't seem to fix it!
