Our Review of the Britax BodyGuard booster seat

The Britax Bodyguard Booster Seat is the first booster seat to feature true side-impact protection. Since side impacts account for the largest number of deaths to restrained children, Britax has made it their priority to design a booster that emphasizes side impact safety. As their first seat designed with "True Side Impact Protection", Britax has yet again raised the bar in terms of safety and comfort of a belt positioning booster seat.

The Bodyguard is a belt-positioning booster rated for children 40 lbs to 100 lbs and 43"-60" tall. It was designed on the same safety principles as the modern auto racing seats and is chock full of new safety and comfort features not available on any other booster. The Enhanced Side Impact design provides wrap-around protection at the head and torso. It is enhanced with EPS Foam to absorb energy in side and rear impacts. The built-in lock offs located under the arm rests help avoid inertia loading as well as prevent "tipping over" or sliding on slippery car seats. The Bodyguard also provides a better all-around fit with adjustable base width and backrest height. Add a base side compartment that holds CD's and Gameboys – and you get a seat that will keep your kid content on long road trips.

What makes the Bodyguard different than the Britax Starriser Comfy?

  • The Bodyguard features Enhanced Side Impact Protection with wrap around headrest and torso protection while the Starriser has been tested for frontal impact only. Please note that the Starriser does have wings on the headrest but they are for napping only.
  • The backrest on the Bodyguard can be adjusted using one hand and requires no unzipping of the fabric while the Starriser requires two hands and some simple unzipping to access the back panel.
  • The Starriser does not have built-in lock offs while the Britax Bodyguard Booster Seat has lock offs on either side of the seat.

bodyguard booster--love it

I have two of these booster seats and will buy 2 more when my other child is ready for it also. My children are very tall and the extendable headrest fits perfectly since it is adjustable to such a large extent. I was initially worried about her not liking the side impact head protectors since they stuck out so far, but she hasn't ever had a problem with it, and in fact uses them as a pillow at times. I would highly recommend this booster.

Best Booster Ever

I bought this booster for the locking clips. I hate it when the kids rock from side to side tipping the seat, or wiggle around in the seat. The locking clips keep the seat belt in place so the seat can't tip over. Also, if you leave the one side locked the seat can't move around in the car when a child isn't sitting in it. Another great feature is the adjustable base. I can make them wider when I only have the two kids in the third row, or if they have a friend along I can adust them to make room to fit three seats in the third row. The head protection makes you feel secure when your child is in the seat, and it is great when they doze off too. I also like the added protection of the design around the rib cage area. I know alot of safety reports say this is a major area in the childs body to keep protected, I glad the design of the seat incorporated this fact. Britax was really thinking when they added the seat belt locks, every booster should have them. And there is impact protection in all the right places. Great buy.

best booster

To start off with, the reviewers who gave the bodyguard a low rating because the base is too narrow simply don't know how to use this seat. One of the great features of this seat is that THE BASE IS ADJUSTABLE. There is a knob under the base (it's red) that turns so that you can adjust the width, which I loved, so that when my son rides in grandma's backseat, she can now fit 3 carseats there. another great feature is the wings, not only for side impact protection, but for sleeping. We took a 16 hr car trip, and my son did wonderful in it. I also love the fact that when you adjust the back (up or down), it stays in place. I also have a roadster, and I HATE that the back moves freely. Adjusting my third child in the 3rd row of the van, is a pain because I can never keep that back from sliding down. I even had to mark that one, so I can see if the back is in the right position or not. Another great thing about this seat is the lock offs. All carseats and boosters have to be secured in a vehicle, so that they do not become airborn in a crash, and cause injury.

Since one side of the bodyguard is always secured to the seat belt, I don't have to worry about this, as I have to with my roadster (since it is only secured when my child is in it, otherwise it's just sitting on the seat). My son loves his seat, and I love it too, not only for the safety, but for the conveniences it offers as well.

not great

find that the seat is too narrow. Specially when my son wears his coat. Not a great buy.

Comments from EliteCarSeats.com:

While I can appreciate this coment, we could use more feedback to make this more useful for everyone... Like how tall is he? How much does he weigh? Is it too narrow at the hips or the body? etc... With this comment, parents have no idea if this applies to their child... :(

Ruined my Seatbelts

1
Reviewer: Anonymous , Jersey Date: March 16, 2006
I needed a narrow safe booster and after months of looking and measuring came to the Bodyguard. I have 3 other Britax seats and have been happy with them. I found it difficult to get my 4 yr daughter in the seat when she was dressed for winter. Then I noticed that the place where the seatbelt is secured under the lock-on (a feature I really wanted because i believe it is safer) had become frayed and was tearing. Now I have to have both my rear seatbelts replaced and buy another booster. I am not really like this booster now. I am going to talk to Britax about it.

The Best Booster!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Troy Montana Date: March 09, 2006
I had my boys in cheap booster seats, I didn't realize that carseats are not all tested to the same standard. When I realized they could be much safer I read everything I could find, and the Bodyguard is the safest. I bought two. When I first used them I thought the lock offs were a pain, it took a few times to get the hang of them. Everything else is awsome. I love that when the boys nap in the car, they don't slide out and hang like they did in our other boosters. It's worth every penny to know that your children are safe. After all, you only get one chance.

Not for cold weather states.

Great quality safe seat. I shopped for booster seats for 2 months. I wanted the safest seat I could find. The money was not the problem, the seat is worth the money. But when your child is all bundled up in there thick winter coat, this seat is very uncomfortable. My daughter complained all the time. We started taking the coat off when she got in the car. But then she was cold. I would recommened this seat to anyone who lives in a warmer climate. One that the kids do not have thick coats. My daughter is very petite and it just did not work out for us.

Britax Bodyguard Booster seat

Reviewer: Anonymous , Virginia Date: October 27, 2005
I am totally impressed with this new seat from Britax. I have owned the roundabout and the bought this to replace the star riser comfy. Now, I am off to buy two additional ones as well. This seat lives up to all the hype. It is far more substantial than any other seat on the market. It is worth the extra cost. Britax is the leader for safety and they have set the standard again. It is easy to use and the seat belt lock offs are a great addition- it makes complete sense and I am amazed it hasn't been a requirement. The headphones are a huge draw where the childern are concerned. The side wings provide better sleep capabilities. You can now raise and lower the height of the seat with a simple pull of a lever- without removal of the cover like the star riser. The seat belt guides are also improved so that they cannot slip out. You cannot go wrong with this seat I highly recommend it!!!!

The Body Guard has unbelievable features!

I purchased this for my autistic Grand Daughter to keep her from getting out of her car seat while traveling. She is very comfortable in it because the bottom seat width expands to fit her comfortably. She weighs 60 lbs. at 5 years old and the school bus car seat was very tight. My daughter was extremely impresses by its designed and protection features! It's a winner! I just ordered my 2nd Body Guard car seat.
