Our Review of the Bugaboo Bee stroller

All new and just for you - a pink Bugaboo Bee!

The Bugaboo Bee has come in for a landing!  After months of anticipation, speculation, and good old-fashioned buzz, Bugaboo's latest travel-friendly baby stroller is finally available.

The Bugaboo Bee stroller is convenience, class, and style on four small wheels.  Whether it's your only stroller or a 'spare' Bugaboo that you take while you travel, the Bugaboo Bee's small stature, versatility, clean lines, and portability make it a welcome addition to your busy family.

  • Suitable from infancy to 37.5 lbs.
  • Folded dimensions: 12" H x 17" W x 35" D
  • Seat is reversible

WHY YOU WILL LOVE IT

Parents who love the Bugaboo aesthetic but find the rugged Bugaboo Cameleon too bulky and cumbersome will adore the Bugaboo Bee.

The frame of the Bugaboo Bee uses the same high-strength aluminum and tough joint components that make Bugaboo baby strollers so durable, but makes a slight departure with 6" foam filled rubber wheels instead of the Bugaboo Cameleon's 12" air filled rear tires.  The result is a compact, quick to fold, quick to open Bugaboo baby stroller that is ideal for parents on the go.

Includes:

  • Demonstration DVD
  • Rain Cover
  • Two-year manufacturer's warranty

Convenience

The compact design of the Bugaboo Bee emphasizes convenience and portability over the all-terrain capability of the Cameloen.  The 'tight and light' Bugaboo Bee weighs only 17 lbs., making it quite easy to carry up steps or toss into the trunk of your car or a taxi.  The Bugaboo Bee stroller folds up quickly with just two hands by releasing the fold levers and lifting the stroller.  It unfolds with just a kick.

The comfortable seat of the Bugaboo Bee is reversible, so your child can face toward you or away, and the range of stylish accessories add value while accentuating this portable baby stroller's versatility.  The 4.2 gallon underside basket gives you plenty of storage space, and the Bugaboo Bee's narrow width (just 20") makes it easy to slide through even the tightest spaces.

Pushability

In a departure from the Bugaboo standard of 6" front wheels and 12" air-filled rear wheels, the Bugaboo Bee rides on four 6" foam-filled rubber tires.  The front wheels can be fixed forward for better control on rough surfaces.  The Bugaboo Bee also has a height adjustable handlebar that allows caretakers of different heights to push the stroller comfortably and makes the fold extra compact.

While still durable and easy to maneuver, the Bugaboo Bee's smaller rear wheels mean you cannot expect to push it through sand or snow.  The Bugaboo Bee baby stroller is best suited for the city, sidewalks, and the shopping mall.

WHY BABY WILL LOVE IT

The Bugaboo Bee provides a safe and comfortable place for your baby or toddler up to 37.5 lbs to ride in style.  The ergonomic seat design contours perfectly to his or her body shape, and the harness adjusts as they grow.  The seat is reversible, allowing baby to keep eye contact with you or face out and see everything that you do.

Comfort

The ergonomic seat and 5-point harness of the Bugaboo Bee are well padded for your child's comfort.  Better yet, the reversible seat reclines to four different positions, allowing your baby to lean back and relax to his or her liking.  This feature is especially useful when your child dozes off.

Every Bugaboo Bee comes with a deluxe sun canopy in the color of your choice, providing ample shade on sunny days.  There's also a great looking rain cover (included) that will keep the elements at bay on less than beautiful days.

Not in love with the Bee

2
Reviewer: Anonymous , Williamsville, NY Date: December 14, 2008
We purchased this stroller in May 2008 before our son was born. I truly tried to give the thing a chance, which is why I waited this long to write this. We wanted something that we could use in the car, etc. that was easy to transport and unfold. We also own two Bugaboo Cameleons , one for our daughter and one for our son. While the ease of folding, etc. is great, the stroller is so small. Our daughter is a very tiny too, 5% percentile for height and weight, and is completely snug in the thing and much prefers her Cameleon . Our baby is on the larger side, and there is no way that he is going to comfortably fit in it by his first birthday. So, I guess that if you do not mind spending this much on a stroller for a year then it is for you. Having bought our first Cameleon within a month of them originally being introduced in 2005 and never having had a single problem with it, and owning the 2008 model Cameleon which I am also in love with (love the foam filled wheels) I really feel that these are a way better option over the Bee. I think that the Bee is a great concept, and I know that everyone was looking for a one step fold compact Bugaboo and the company listened, but it really is far from perfect and truly no replacement or substitute for the Frog(never tried but have heard great things) or the best stroller ever, the Cameleon. Cameleon is definitely worth the few extra folding steps and money- you will get many years vs. one year if you are lucky with the Bee. When we are travelling by air now we dont even use the Bee, we actually bought a Maclaren Quest which our daughter is very comfy in, and fold up the Cameleon for the baby. (whatever Bug you have, def. purchase the travel bag and protect your investment!) And, if we we are going by car, we actually fold up both Cameleons and bring them with us. That is how truly disappointed we are with the Bee, the new dust collector in our garage.

Love my Bugaboo Bee

Reviewer: Marsha , New York, NY Date: December 11, 2008
I purchased the Bugaboo Bee Stroller for my daughter before she was born. I first had problems folding the stroller when the chassis facing me. When she turned 5 months old, I change the chassis to face outward. Then folding the stroller became easy. I also purchased the cup older which is not good when the chassis is facing outward. The cup holder tends to pop off when it bumps into things. When I purchased the stroller, I knew I was having a girl; at that time pink was not an option to me until after she was born. My only wish is that I can purchase the sun canopy separate in different colors so I can switch the colors from time to time. Other than that I love my Bee and recommend it to my friends.

flawed

Reviewer: Anonymous , NY, NY Date: October 29, 2008
i am on my fourth Bugaboo Bee since June 2008 (manufacture date November '07) - First bee had defective handles (they moved even when in lock position - see other reviewers also); second bee's hind wheel developed a bump and caused the stroller to "hiccup": i just returned my third bee because the brakes also failed on more than one ocassion - stepping on the brake pad only caused one hind wheel to lock - not both, and this usually happened on uneven surfaces. If i had to do this over again, i would wait until these flaws are fixed before paying $500+ for a stroller. Kudos to Bugaboo service for quick replacements, but i have lost confidence in this stroller. It has gotten to the point that every time i use the stroller, i double check the handles, the wheels, and the brakes...which i should not have to do! supposed this new chassis (manufacture date sept'08) has solved these issues - keeping my fingers crossed.

Bugaboo Bee

Reviewer: K Brown , LONDON Date: October 14, 2008
Whilst I really like most things about the Bugaboo Bee, my enjoyment of this buggy has unfortunately been seriously overshadowed by the recurring handlebar problems we have experienced. I have returned the bee FOUR times for a replacement since buying it in March. Problems with the handlebar have included sticking, locking, and then not working at all. Whilst head office have been sympathetic, helpful and extremely efficient sending replacements(Victoria you have been brilliant) I have now lost confidence in this model and as I unpack my latest frame I am left wondering how long it will be before yet another Bee flies back to Amsterdam.

handle bar problem

4
Reviewer: Anonymous , London, UK Date: October 08, 2008
I have also experienced the problem with the adjustable handle bar sticking and then one of the catches flopping open. I had it returned as faulty and have been given a new one - only to find this one has started doing the same thing. I thought it was me so haven't returned the new one, but I now see there is probably an issue with the handle locks, i.e. they stick and rub until they wear down and no longer work. With the exception of this one point I am very happy with the bee. I find unfolding and folding it easy, however as a 6'+ man it is easier for me than my wife. It is light and I found the price comparable to the bigger heavier travel systems that we decided against. Most people I know only use their big travel system long enough for the baby to progress to a light stroller - Quinny or McClaren - I am hoping that using the lightweight bee from birth we will get more use from it.

Bugaboo Bee has several

3
Reviewer: Anonymous , Sunnyvale, CA Date: October 03, 2008
I love the maneuverability of the Bugaboo Bee, but there are a few issues that "bug" me. First, the adjustable handlebar has given us lots of problems. When we first got the stroller, the handlebar was barely adjustable and then it eventually froze. When we finally were able to get the handlebar to extend again, one of the sides stopped locking in place (clip doesn't stay closed). We believe the rubber-stops that hold the handlebar in place are defective. Second, when the seat is facing backwards, it is very difficult to open up. The seat kept getting in the way, falling past the seat ledge, so that we had to re-collapse the stroller and try to re-open it while holding on to the seat. Third, my son is always fighting to sit up more. The Bee needs one more setting that is less reclined. Fourth, for over $500, the Bee should come with a basic cup holder.

Comments from The Staff:

I appreciate your concerns and have forwarded your comments to the Manufacturer. If you suspect your stroller may have a defect please contact Bugaboo directly at 800-460-2922.

My daughter is an average sized 22 mo. old, but I bought the Bee when she was less than a year old and the top of her head already touches the top of the canopy. This is such a great stroller. I wish Bugaboo would have made it bigger or atleast extended the hight of the canopy. It would just be a matter of redesigning the canopy wires.
