Our Review of the BOB Ironman Duallie double stroller

On Sale for $434.99! Regularly priced at $479.99. Save $45 (9%)

Fully endorsed by the Ironman Triathlon, the BOB Ironman Duallie is a tough two-passenger running stroller that is strong, durable, and easy to manage. For dedicated runners with more than one child, the BOB Ironman Duallie is an ideal choice.

The Ironman Duallie looks sharp and will survive continuous abuse, but that's just the beginning of the benefits it offers. The variable suspension system (with up to 3" of play) and the adjustable tracking are one of a kind. In addition, the Ironman Duallie's folding mechanism is amazingly simple - collapsing the stroller down into thirds, making it very easy to transport and store.

Two kids, up to a combined weight of 100 lbs, can ride comfortably in this double jogging stroller thanks to the near flat recline and generous padding in the seat. The Ironman Duallie is a truly multi-faceted outdoor stroller that is great for running, jogging, walking, or just casually cruising the trails.

For your convenience, the Ironman Duallie comes with a caliper hand brake and wrist tether for control while running, plus a parking brake and footbrake. There's also plenty of pockets and storage space beneath the seat, washable fabrics, and a 5 year frame warranty.

For your kids, the dual seats of the Ironman Duallie have 5-point harnesses, and super comfy padding. The reclining seat backs are foam padded, and recline almost completely flat. It is not the best idea to jog while the seat is in full recline, but it?s a great option when you?re just strolling through the park and your little boy or girl starts to snooze.

What are the differences between the Ironman Duallie and the SUS Duallie?

The Ironman Duallie is a bit lighter than the BOB SUS Duallie, but they both feature the same unique suspension and folding system. The Ironman Duallie has slicker tires and aluminum rims with stainless steel spokes, while the SUS Duallie has Polymer wheels (BMX Style).

The Ironman Duallie is equipped with on- road tires for speed and efficiency on the pavement. Also, don?t worry about getting your Duallie in an out of shops, it's narrow enough to fit easily through standard doorways.

With the handy BOB Double Car Seat Adaptor you can transform your BOB Ironman into a high performance travel system, compatible with these infant carseats:

Bottom Line: The Ironman Duallie is our most popular double jogging stroller, and with good reason. It's quality, comfort, and convenience are impossible to beat. Simply put, the BOB Ironman duallie can train just as hard as you can.

Excellent ride, but minor inconveniences

4
Reviewer: Emily , Ft Walton Beach, FL Date: April 29, 2008
I bought this when my 2nd born was a few weeks old (in 2006) from this site. Great, fast service and excellent customer support. But after only a year, the foam padding on the left side of my handle bar began to shred and pull apart. I've re-taped it with padded leather baseball tape, which works, but isn't the same. Also, it's huge when folded (but it does fold easily). I also have problems fitting it through the doorways (I have a 1960's standard house), though it does fit with a bit of manipulation. The color is rough to deal with, because I notice the bugs zoom in on it when we walk, especially bees (but they immediately fly away when the realize there's no honey guides or flowery smell)! My last complaint is that my daughter is only 4 but really can't fit comfortably in it anymore. She's slender, but it's the height--her head hits the top of the canopy, even when fully extended (and when it's collapsed, it's awkward). It also seems like her knees are high up in the air bc of the foot rest, which is just a thin piece of canvass that (hard to explain). So I'm donating it already, after merely a year and a half of use. B On a pure pro, this has a smooth, fluid ride for driver and kids. It handles turns well, is easy to turn and pivot, and really seems to absorb shock well. Haven't had a brake problem other than making sure I press in the button well to engage lock. And the handlebar height is excellent (I'm 5'8 and very comfy pushing this). If it weren't for those minor issues above, I'd have given it 5 stars just for its smooth ride and easy steering. But I'm not sure that's worth nearly $500. ?

Great double jogger!

Reviewer: Anonymous , Havelock, NC Date: December 03, 2007
We have the single Ironman and have loved that since day one. Just received the double Ironman as a gift and my toddler has been climbing in every day, waiting for her baby brother to be big enough to ride! She loves it, and that makes getting out and jogging much easier. The best features are the hammock like seat, making it very comfortable for the child, and the HUGE sun canopy that actually covers the children when you're outside! I'm 5'7, and my husband is 6'4, and we can both push it comfortably. The shocks are great, it pushes easily and folds down about as small as possible for a double stroller.

Great for a Serious Runner

5
Reviewer: Veronica Crim , San Clemente, CA Date: November 26, 2007
I previously owned the Bob Sports Utilty D'Lux Single after my first child. Having my second and getting more serious about running, I borrowed my neighbors older Ironman Duallie model. I liked it and opted to purchase the Ironman instead of the Sport Utility Duallie since I primarily do road running. Its great to have the added features of the foot break and deeper inclince, both which my single Bob stoller and my neighbor's Ironman Duallie did not have. I run with the kids 2-3 times a week and love how it handles. I would highly recommend it for serious runners of multiple children.

Do not purchase based off of Online reviews

Reviewer: Anonymous , Harrisburg, PA Date: October 03, 2007

I have had a Instep 10K stroller which we loved but it was starting to get old and when we had twins we decided to get a new Jogging stroller. After Reading many online reviews we decided to get the BOB Ironman Duallie. Don't make our mistake and look at it before you buy it. There is an issue with the front Break (It does not hold) It also lacks a rear locking break and when putting my twins in and out it rolls away if you do not have a second person to hold it. I have contact Bob twice about this issue with no response. It also is not truly a functional stroller for running, it lacks the stability that others offer, however it is fine for walks on rough surfaces. It does fold easily, but when folded there are no locks to keep it in a folded position. It also is not as compact as other models and does not fold as flat for transportation and storage as other models. The rear shock on it does work fine, but having properly inflated tires also helps. Have not seen the benefit to the shock adjustment? Make sure you look at several strollers and don't purchase based off of online reviews. There are a lot of less expensive strollers which are more comfortable for the child, more functional, lighter and COST LESS.

Comments from the Staff

Dear L, Thank you for the feedback.
We took note of your review, and would like to clear up a few inaccuracies. The Ironman Duallie is a running stroller that DOES have both a rear parking break and a means of locking the stroller frame together when folded. We contacted BOB regarding your concerns and here was their response:

When purchasing a new product, it is important to educate yourself on the features and functions by reading your manual. Additional information can be garnered from other sources, including Joggingstroller.com.
All BOB strollers are running strollers. The Ironman was specifically designed for the performance athlete, and is used by many professional runners and triathletes, both during training and racing. BOB strollers meet or exceed all ASTM and Health Canada testing requirements, including specific stability testing.
The 2007 Ironman Duallie has a rear wheel, foot activated, parking brake. If you have a 2006 stroller the hand brake serves as your parking brake. In either case, the safety wrist strap should always be used to ensure that the stroller does not roll away from you. If your brake is not functioning properly, please see item 7 in your manual or contact BOB customer service (800-893-2447) for adjustment instructions.

Also, all BOB strollers lock in the folded position using the safety leash. Please see item 14 in the manual of your BOB Ironman Duallie will inform you of the locking mechanism. BOB strollers have 3" of adjustable suspension. By selecting either the first or second position it is possible to achieve optimum performance based on the weight of your children, your speed, and the terrain you will be traveling. It is recommended that you always have the tires properly inflated.

Humvee of Strollers

Reviewer: Joe Caruso , Newport, RI Date: July 11, 2007
Over all we are extremely happy with the BOB Ironman Dualie stroller. The stroller arrived in 3-4 days after placing the order. The stroller did arrive slightly damaged (tear in canvass on canopy)but the people at Joggingstroller.com were extremely helpful with reimbursment. If you own an old house be aware that the stroller will not fit through most doors unless you collapse it. I found that the stroller is easily collapsable but is still tough for my wife to move down a small flight of basement stairs (old house). I ordered the infant car seat attachment which was easy to install when the direction were followed. We took our infant for walks when he was a week old. Our two year old son fits perfectly. The infant is still to young to actually jog with the stroller but walking with it is a breeze. The stroller is easy to manuever and is a breeze to push. We live in Newport, RI and some streets are cobblestone but the stroller handles the bumbs very well. I cannot wait to log some serious miles because I also need to lose my baby weight. We found the storage to sufficient even with an infant on a two hour walk. We were a little reluctant about the cost but the BOB IRonman dualie is well worth the money. The money is a small price to pay for your sanity of being able to take a two year old and an infant out for two hour walks safely & securely. Call me with any questions (401) 847-8214

So dissapointed

Reviewer: Katie Pitts , Willington, CT Date: April 23, 2007
I did so much research on this stroller while I was pregnant with my second daughter. I ordered it over the winter during a great sale. Since I could not run during the winter I was so excited to run with both kids when it actually warmed up enough for them to be outside. Before I could even run I noticed that both tires were flat! BOB sent me two new tubes, which was nice, but since I am mechanically iliterate I have to bring to a bike shop to get them changed. When I got the stroller into the back of my van I noticed the handlebar cushion was completely split. BOB is going to send me a new handlebar. I will have to bring the stroller to a bike shop (again) to get this replaced. I COULD not wait to take my kids on a nice long run with me but there have been two things wrong with the stroller before it even hits pavement. My single stroller has over 1200 miles logged on it and has never had one problem. I thought BOB was supposed to be top of the line!??!?!!? The customer service has been accomodating but I am wondering what the next issue is going to be!!! I am so dissapointed!!!!!!!!!

Comments from The Staff:

Hi there! That is very unfortunate that you are having issues with your BOB. BOB has very low warranty rates, and they do stand behind their product 100%, so I am glad that they were able to help you out with replacement parts! I am confident that once you get out on the road that the stroller will be worth it! If you have anymore problems, feel free to contact us at info@JoggingStroller.com. Happy running!

Great stroller!

Reviewer: Anonymous , San Ramon, CA Date: March 03, 2007
My husband and I are long-distance walkers (90 minutes plus on the weekends) and intermittent joggers. We have a 3 1/2 year old and an 8 month old. Our older child is tall for her age. Both children happily and comfortably last through all of our road marches. My daughter still has plenty of room to grow. The ride is smooth and they both often end up falling asleep. There is an 8 inch height difference between me and my husband, but we both comfortably use the stroller for both walking and jogging while pushing a combined 60 pounds of kid. There is plenty of storage underneath and in the mesh behind the seats. The canopy is very generous as far as sun protection and the see-through window on top is great for monitoring the interaction (toy stealing) between the kids. Each child seat also has two mesh cup holders for self-serve sippy cups and snacks. The generous size of the stroller prohibits its use as a shopping/all-purpose stroller, but if you want to be able to get in a good long workout, the comfort of this stroller for the passengers seems to make wiggly kids willing to sit and take in the scenery. A promise of a stop at the park also helps... We're forunate to live in an area with lots of clean trails so the stationary front wheel is not an issue. If I lived in a more urban environment with very narrow sidewalks and lots of corners this might not be the best choice, but it has been great for our situation.

Love it!

Reviewer: Herndon Hoos , Charlottesville, VA Date: March 02, 2007
I'm a runner and this stroller was given to us as a gift. I absolutely love it. It is larger than I originally expected, but is incredibly light, which (to me) makes the size a very minor issue. It really is perfect for the kids (very comfy) and great for Charlottesville (VA) hilly runs. In my opinion, the only less than ideal thing about this stroller is that it doesn't fit easily through our doors getting in and out of the house. BUT it's very easy to collape-- so it just took me a few frustrating, hurried moments to figure out that I need to plan a little ahead and get the stroller outside before loading the kids. :-) That aside, I highly recommend this stroller for runners.

Comments from The Staff:

BOB made an adjustment to the design of their strollers after 2005, so they should fit through standard doorways. If you have a very narrow space, you might have an issue, but to my knowledge, you should be good through standard sized doorways, which I believe are generally about 32".
