Our Review of the Active Tunes Stroll-A-Tune

When we first hooked up and tested out the Active Tunes Stroll-A-Tune, the immediate reaction was "Why didn't we think of that?"

A small and simple stereo speaker system that connects to any audio device with a standard headphone jack, the Stroll-A-Tune works with everything from an iPOD or other MP3 players to Satellite radio or your old cassette walkman; allowing you to listen to music, podcasts, or your favorite morning talk show while you stroll without the need for headphones or earbuds. This actually ups the safety factor for your passenger(s) by allowing you to maintain full awareness of your surroundings.

Small speakers aside, the volume and sound clarity you get from the Stroll-A-Tune is actually quite good. Skeptical at first, we were pleasantly surprised when we fired one up. While listening to an IPOD through the speakers of the Stroll-A-Tune, we tried to come up with some better names for it. Suggestions included the "Rock n' Stroll', "Jog n' Jam" or, for those of you with rambunctious little ones, "The Drown 'em Out." (Admittedly, these aren't that great either.) In any case, it works well. Call it whatever you want, listen to whatever you or your passenger(s) want to, and don't worry about wires dangling and flapping while you jog or stroll; a neoprene sleeve for your audio device is included and mounts on the handle right next to your Stroll-A-Tune.

The mounting bracket for the Stroll-A-Tune is quite simple, and will work with any round stroller handle between 0.85" and 1.25" in diameter; which covers pretty much the whole bunch. Foam inserts, included with the mounting bracket, prevent the Stroll-A-Tune from slipping and sliding while mounted. Note: The Stroll-A-Tune does NOT fit on the rectangular handles of Bugaboo Strollers (the Dutch just had to be different) or on the small handles of most umbrella strollers, although you may be able to improvise something.

Worth It

I hate walking/jogging with out my iPod, and my husband always worried about me having the ear buds in and not being able to hear cars coming. We live in a rural area and have no sidewalks, so I'm forced to use the road. So I decided to try the stroll-a-tune as a compromise. The sound is actually pretty decent. Of course for $30, you aren't going to get Bose quality- but it was better than I expected and has pretty good volume. I like the fact that the kids can enjoy the music, also. The only think I don't really like is that it has an on/off swich and if you forget to turn it off it runs out the batteries.

nice sound for the money, surprisingly durable, if you are looking for a good Disney tune player this is great, especially on the weekend runs of 90 minutes to 180 minutes. Not recommended as a substitute for IPOD speakers for more adult (deep bass / rock) music. also a good baby gift!

Great Idea, Not Great Quality

Reviewer: Kim , Burke, VA Date: June 30, 2008
I was really hoping for the best with these speakers, as it's such a great idea. However, I've used this product (or have tried to use it) 4 or 5 times in the past month, and it's just not working out well for us. The first couple of times I used it, there was a recurring, loud static-y noise that totally distracted me from my run because I was fiddling with it to try to get it to stop. Hoping it was just because I was running on a trail, I tried it out on the sidewalks of my neighborhood. The first time, it would just stop working randomly, and again I'd have to fiddle with it. Yesterday, it didn't work at all. Not impressed. Maybe I'll try to exchange it and hope for the best with another, but so far I'm really disappointed.

Wish I had this years ago

Based on the reviews here, I figured it was a chance bet to try these speakers and see if they worked well for me. My medium expectations were exceeded because the speakers produce very good sound and easily snap onto the stroller. I use them with my ipod nano and adjust the volume via the ipod since there is no volume control on the speakers. It comes with a short cord to hook the two things together. There is an on/off button. The clasp to hook onto the stroller doesn't fasten perfectly and maybe that is what the unexplained extra pieces in the box are for; however the speakers don't bounce or have trouble working so I haven't yet tried to make the fastener perfect. Overall I am thrilled because now I can share music with the kids and not feel I am endangering us by wearing headphones on the road. I am going to see if I can order extra clasps so I can use the speakers with my other strollers as well. If not I might just bring them along in the drink holder because it really adds something to the trip to have music. I would definitely recommend this item, especially at such a reasonable price.

Ok product

The speakers initially worked great, with sound quality above what I would expect for this size and price range. However, after only a few minutes of playing it (in the home, not even on the stroller), a constant static sound was produced. Any time the device was turned on (even when not attached to an iPOD), there was static. Considering other positive reviews, I suspect this was a fairly isolated fluke with this particular device. Regardless, I did return it and will look at other portable speaker options. The return process through this site was effortless and easy--definitely a no-hassle experience. One issue I do have with the design of the device is its lack of portability between strollers. I have three children, and depending on who needs to be dropped off/picked up from school when determines whether I will be using my single or double jogging stroller. I would really like a device that I can easily move between strollers. This needs to be attached via a screw and screw driver to the stroller; it is not easily moved between different strollers, especially on a constant, daily basis. If I cannot find a better, more portable option, I would consider trying this again and maybe even consider getting two of them for simplicity and ease of use with my two strollers.

Love These Speakers

My daughter and I just love these speakers for the iPod. Living in New York City, we are out walking a lot. Having some music to listen to adds to the enjoyment of our long walks. The speakers have good sound quality and it's easy to mount and dismount the unit to the provided holder. Mount is very secure, even on bumpy sidewalks and rough terrain. Mounts easily to all stroller types. I highly recommend this product if you want to listen to your music out on walks and hanging out at the playground. I bought this so that I didn't have to use headphones for the iPod (which is very unsafe).

Works as advertised

I have had this speaker for about 2 months. It was easy to attach to my stroller. The sound quality is adequate and it really makes my walks nicer since I can listen to music or play some of my kidsâ?? music. The only negative aspect I have noticed so far is that if my hand hits the speaker a certain way when I am using it on the stroller it pops partially out of the holder--moving it's location on the push bar fixed this issue for now.
